New images released from the set of The Walking Dead season 11 show the cast and crew of the AMC drama celebrating the end of the series. Based on Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard’s comic book series of the same name, The Walking Dead follows a band of survivors, originally led by Sheriff’s deputy Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), who are forced to navigate a post-apocalyptic world in which being attacked by zombies (known as “walkers”) is an ever-present threat. First premiering back in 2010, The Walking Dead has received mostly positive reviews from audiences and critics for its original spin on the zombie subgenre and its depiction of a society undergoing the end of civilization. The series’ success has also spawned a number of spinoff shows set within the same universe, including prequel Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, with other series also in development as the flagship show nears its end.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Featuring other regular cast members alongside Lincoln throughout its run, including Chandler Riggs, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, and Danai Gurira, the horror series is currently airing its eleventh and final season after twelve years on the air. AMC announced its decision to end the series in 2020 and confirmed that The Walking Dead season 11 would be split into three eight-episode segments. The first eight episodes were shown in 2021 and the second block is currently being broadcast, with the final episode of part 2 set to premiere on April 10, 2022. It was recently confirmed by showrunner Angela Kang that The Walking Dead season 11 has now wrapped filming entirely, meaning that only post-production remains on the series ahead of its conclusion.

Following on from Kang’s announcement that shooting for the final season of the show was now complete, new images of the last day on set have been brought to light. Shared by the official The Walking Dead Twitter account, the images show the final clapperboard announcing “THAT’S A WRAP!!!” as well as the cast and crew in a group shot celebrating the end of the series. The tweet also gives a heartfelt thank you to the fan base of the horror drama for the support it has shown over the years: “11 seasons, 12 years, 177 episodes, 1 amazing fan base. Thank you, #TWDFamily for joining us on this journey.” Check out the images from The Walking Dead‘s final day of shooting below:

There’s much speculation surrounding The Walking Dead series finale, with only a few plot details being hinted at. As such, the images might fuel conjecture even further, providing the opportunity for some fans to see if they can decipher anything story-wise from any details the photos offer. Still, the shot of the cast and crew all together on the final day of shooting, accompanied by the earnest thank you to the “amazing fan base…for joining us on this journey,” showcases the extent of emotion that was evidently rife on set as filming finally concluded on AMC’s hit series.

This will likely come as a bittersweet announcement for devotees of the horror drama. Although many will no doubt find it hard to see that the long-running show has finally reached the end of filming, the message of thanks and solidarity addressed to fans may help some come to terms with the fact that The Walking Dead is concluding after twelve years on the air. With a Rick Grimes-led feature film currently in development, as well as spinoffs Tales of the Walking Dead and Isle of the Dead also in the works, fans still have much to look forward to within The Walking Dead franchise, even if its parent series is now approaching the end.
