Vince Gilligan teases the possible returns of Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul in the upcoming Better Call Saul season 6. Cranston and Paul are known for their memorable duo as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, who team up to cook crystal methamphetamine and Breaking Bad explores their relationship as they get into multiple wild and dire situations. Better Call Saul is the prequel to the series, centering around their criminal lawyer, Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk), with its pilot taking place six years before the events of the Walter White crime drama.

Better Call Saul season 6 will be the show’s last, consisting of 13 episodes. Like Breaking Bad’s final season, it will be split into two halves. The show has since been building towards the timeline of Breaking Bad with every passing season, and has slowly integrated many of its characters to coincide and illustrate that the two worlds are becoming more and more intertwined. Since the conclusion of Better Call Saul season 5, there have been many teasers as to how the events of the highly anticipated final season will play out, and if more characters from Breaking Bad will show up.

Speaking with Variety, Gilligan shares his thoughts about the potential appearances of Cranston and Paul in the final season of Better Call Saul. Both Gilligan and co-creator Peter Gould attended the season 6 premiere of the show and remained coy and secretive as to what events may occur. However, Gilligan teased that the possibility of the Breaking Bad stars showing up is not out of the question. Gilligan’s provoking statement can be viewed below:

“It would be a damn shame if the show ended without [Cranston and Paul] appearing, would it not? You heard it here first.”

Since the beginning of Better Call Saul, viewers have always wondered if either Walter or Jesse will turn up in the series. Both Cranston and Paul have previously reprised their roles in El Camino: A Breaking Bad Film, which followed Jesse Pinkman after the events of Breaking Bad. Cranston appeared in a flashback scene that he shared with Paul. If both would appear again in the prequel, it would be unclear in what capacity since the show loves to jump timelines, such as the Gene flash-forwards that traditionally open Better Call Saul seasons, which take place after Saul’s storyline in Breaking Bad.

While many hints have been dropped about Better Call Saul season 6, the storylines continue to be kept tightly under wraps. With the events of the season 5 finale that ended on many cliffhangers and intense developments, it is expected that Better Call Saul will veer towards ruthlessness and tragedy as it inches closer to the Breaking Bad timeline. Gilligan and Gould have confirmed that the two shows will crossover in a unique, exhilarating way in the last season and it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds and how Walter and Jesse may play a part should both appear. More information is soon to come, and it will be exciting to begin the endgame when the first half of Better Call Saul season 6 arrives on April 18.
