The show WandaVision has been setting up the gradual empowerment of Monica Rambeau over the course of the series, and in episode 7, her extraordinary powers and abilities finally manifested.  Monica’s powers appear to be in line with those she has in the Marvel comic books.

Monica Rambeau has a long history in the comics, first as Captain Marvel, and then later Photon and Spectrum. It remains to be seen what name she takes in the MCU, but it’s clear she’s going to be a major force in the movies and television series for a long time to come.

10 Transforms Into Electromagnetic Energy

Monica Rambeau is one of the most powerful female superheroes in Marvel Comics, and she has been since her debut in Spider-Man Annual #16 back in October 1982. She was co-created by writer Roger Stern and artist John Romita Jr. and one of the primary powers they gave her is the ability to transform into any form of energy on the electromagnetic spectrum.

This means she can literally become microwaves or radio waves. In WandaVision, she could conceivably become a television signal.

9 Manipulates And Controls Any Form Of Energy

She can do more than just transform into energy. Monica can also manipulate and control any form of electromagnetic energy. This makes her one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel universe and her powerset is similar in many respects to the powers of Captain Marvel.

Monica can manipulate gamma rays, X-rays, infrared light, and more. When she absorbs the energy, she takes on all of its properties, which gives her a staggering dynamic range of abilities.

8 Invisibility

Monica gained her superpowers through an accident. She was exposed to electromagnetic radiation after trying to prevent an experimental weapon from being activated in her hometown of New Orleans.

This made her instantly visible to the public, but one of her greatest powers is to become invisible. Since Monica can control any energy on the electromagnetic spectrum, she can control visible light and thus make herself invisible to people and any method of detection.

7 Intangibility

Along with invisibility, Monica can take on the diaphanous quality of energy and make herself intangible. This allows her to phase through just about anything – as simple background radiation she will penetrate any barrier short of lead. In the case of WandaVision, it seems this is what allows her to pass through the Hex.

Monica’s ability to phase is very similar to that of Kitty Pryde, a classic member of the X-Men and who was once going to be the focus of her own solo X-Men film. With the X-Men a part of the MCU’s future, they could potentially cross paths in the near future.

6 Flies At Light Speed

A lot of superheroes can fly, but none of them – with the exception possibly of Carol Danvers – can fly at light speed. By virtue of being able to transform into light, Monica can fly at the speed of light, which makes her one of, if not the, fastest superheroes in comic books.

Light travels at 186,282 miles per second, and it takes light from the sun about eight minutes to reach the Earth. That’s how long it would take Monica Rambeau to cover the same distance – over 93 million miles.

5 Energy Blasts

Monica can also convert the energy she acquires into force beams. These photonic blasts carry over 300 tons of TNT of explosive force, which isn’t quite in the atomic bomb range, but it’s doubtful any of her opponents would debate the point. This is Monica’s primary offensive weapon and has been incredibly destructive against the enemies she’s faced in her tenure in the comics.

As a member and longtime leader of the Avengers, Monica faced numerous threats, including the Masters Of Evil, led by Falcon And Winter Soldier villain Baron Zemo.

4 Holographic Illusions

A consequence of Monica’s ability to manipulate light is that she can cast light-based holographic illusions. Monica can create objects, alter her own appearance, or creating multiple images of herself to confuse enemies.

This has been a traditional power for Monica in the comics.

3 Shape-Shifting

Ant-Man isn’t the only Avenger who can get really small. While in her energy form, Monica can reduce her energy to microscopic size and turn back at will, reverting back to normal size. By focusing her light-energy form into a tight beam, she can also become a laser. She’s able to split herself into many energy beams of different shapes and sizes.

This came in handy once against the Rhino, when the Avengers teamed up with Spider-Man to take down the villain in Avengers #237 by Roger Stern and artist Al Milgrom. She was able to adjust her size to take on the massive supervillain.

2 Immortal

Another consequence of her extraordinary powers is that Monica, as pure living energy, doesn’t age and won’t die. This was established in Avengers: No Road Home, a storyline from 2019 in which the team confronts Nyx, Mother Of Night.

This could also be the case for Monica in the MCU, which could lead to more of the tragic experience she suffered during The Blip. She is destined to outlive her friends and family, with the possible exception of Carol Danvers, who also appears not to age.

1 Dimensional Interface

One of Monica’s least well-known powers has the most significance for WandaVision. After getting overloaded and losing her abilities for a time, Monica discovered how to funnel any energy directed at her away into a dimensional interface that she can also access.

The Nexus ad for episode seven sells an antidepressant called Nexus that “works to anchor you back to your reality – or the reality of your choice.” This seems to be a reference to the Nexus Of All Realities, a dimensional gateway, or interface, that could have huge implications for the series.
