Evan Peters’ fake Pietro Maximoff character in WandaVision proved to be so popular with audiences that he should become the MCU’s official Quicksilver. The Maximoff twins were introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but only one survived the film’s events: While Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda went on to join the Avengers, Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Pietro met his demise by heroically saving Hawkeye. Even if his sacrifice gave the character a great redemption arc, it angered many fans of the original comics; Pietro Maximoff would never go on to become Quicksilver in the MCU, a character who has an important place in the Avengers in the comics.

That anger at Quicksilver’s aborted existence in the Marvel cinematic universe is what made Evan Peters’ appearance in WandaVision so much more exciting for many fans. Ever since the X-Men film rights returned to Marvel Studios, there’s been much speculation among fans about how the mutants would be integrated into the MCU. Peters’ surprise casting as Pietro in WandaVision led many to hope his role would act as a gateway connecting the two. His version of the character, which originates from Fox’s X-Men franchise, was acclaimed by fans and critics alike. Not only did he provide refreshing comedic relief, but his powers were used in a much more imaginative way, making Fox’s X-Men version of Quicksilver better than Marvel’s. Unfortunately, it was revealed at the end of WandaVision, episode 7, “Breaking the Fourth Wall,” that Peters’ Pietro was actually another resident of Westview named Ralph Bohner, whom Agatha had magically possessed in order to manipulate Wanda.

However, that doesn’t mean that Quicksilver won’t eventually come back to the MCU in another form. If and when that happens, Marvel should seriously consider keeping Evan Peters on to interpret the super-speedster, in spite of Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s original casting. WandaVision’s Ralph Bohner twist shows that Peters’ version of the character is beloved by audiences, and their reaction to the Ralph reveal is a good indicator of that: the hashtag #SaveQuicksilver swiftly took over Twitter after the episode aired, and audiences are ready to welcome him back with open arms.

With the MCU’s Quicksilver being dead for so many years, the character had been a little forgotten by audiences, but WandaVision succeeded in making him relevant again. The MCU’s Phase 4 is already confirmed to be exploring the multiverse in upcoming movies such as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Some have theorized that Doctor Strange 2 could bring back Quicksilver through the multiverse, given the film’s official title. Not much is known about how the multiverse works in the MCU just yet, but alternate identities for the same character is a possibility, as well as several versions of the same person.

Phase 4 is the perfect opportunity to bring back Pietro for good, and taking into account how enthusiastic the audience was about Evan Peters’ return as Quicksilver in WandaVision, the inclusion of his character as the MCU’s official version through a multiverse twist is feeling more and more inevitable. Even though no announcements have been made regarding the casting of either Taylor-Johnson or Peters, it’s likely that it will be kept secret until the films’ releases considering how big of a twist it would be.
