WandaVision star, Randall Park, reveals that he completely forgot about his brief role as “Asian Jim” on The Office. Currently, Park plays fan-favorite character, Agent Jimmy Woo on the popular Marvel series featuring the titular superhero couple, Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany). His humorous, sympathetic portrayal as Woo, along with his burgeoning friendship with new allies, Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), has endeared him to both viewers and critics.

Throughout his acting career, Park has garnered attention for his varied roles in the entertainment industry. He notably played the kind-hearted patriarch of the Huang family in Fresh Off the Boat, which ran from 2015 to 2020, and the love interest to Ali Wong in the Netflix romantic comedy, Always Be My Maybe. He first joined the MCU universe in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, where his character Agent Woo supervised Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) while under house arrest. During his tenure as a performer, he has also received notice for his comedic cameos in television.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

According to CBR, Park, while speaking to Conan O’Brien, candidly shared that he had previously failed to recall his bit appearance on The Office in 2012. In the last season of the iconic NBC series, he played an actor hired by Jim and Pam as part of a larger prank against Dwight Schrute. While at Dunder Mifflin, he pretended to be Jim in an effort to trick Dwight into believing his work colleague had always been Asian. Park explained, “I was in and out in an hour and I thought, ‘That was really fun.’ And then I just completely forgot about it.”

However, this lapse in memory soon caused immense confusion and discomfort for Park. He opened up about unsettling experiences he had with strangers on the street:

Several years later, I’m like walking down the street and this car drives by and a guy yells, ‘Asian Jim!’ And drives off. And I’m thinking, ‘Is this some racist thing that I don’t know about?’ I thought it was a hate crime because I had forgotten about my appearance on The Office. People would be walking up to me and saying, ‘What’s up, Asian Jim?’ And I’d be like, ‘F**k you!”

Fortunately, Park’s recent success in the MCU has certainly helped magnify his star power. In Ant-Man and the Wasp, the witty rapport between Park and Rudd delighted many fans, who later applauded his re-appearance in WandaVision. In fact, his latest stint on the Marvel show has even inspired viewers to call for an X-Files-style spinoff with Park as the protagonist. This recognition is well-deserved and hopefully leads to more starring roles for the actor in the future.
