Warhammer: Chaosbane – developed and published by Eko Software and Bigben Interactive, respectively – has an enhanced version, dubbed the Slayer Edition, that is now available on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The upgraded version aims to increase the game’s frame rate to 60fps at 4K and includes all downloadable content. Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition delivers an experience fans should find worthwhile through smooth gameplay, crisp visuals, swift loading times, and hours of replayability.

Warhammer: Chaosbane was designed for the previous generation but has been touched up and ported to the new systems, and it performs smoothly. During multiple sessions lasting several hours, the new Slayer Edition functions at an accelerated pace on PS5. Eko Software achieved its goal of the game operating in 4K at 60 frames per second, even in the most enemy-infested areas with numerous rapid animations, flashy damage numbers, and subtle, livened background scenery.

At no point did the port offer any hiccups, screen tears, or choppy frames. Couple this buttery production with swift loading times through the PS5’s SSD and fans will experience almost no downtime. The longest wait when wanting to get into the action involves sitting through the narration after making a new character during the game’s prologue, with each new character class having a slightly different introduction.

Alongside 60fps comes 4K graphics quality, showcasing the PS5’s improvements over its predecessor. Warhammer: Chaosbane’s colors are vibrant on PS5, with character and monster details popping as if interacting with a 3D cartoon. However, to say this is truly a game for the new generation would be a stretch – fans are likely going to have to wait some time before the new consoles’ assets stand out when generation exclusives become the norm. Nevertheless, Chaosbane’s PS5 port is a marked improvement over its PS4 counterpart.

Players who purchase the Slayer Edition will also be given access to all the game’s DLC, including the Tomb Kings expansion and the new Witch Hunter character class, the latter of which sees players switching between dual-wielding pistols and a rapier. While not as agile as the Elf Scout or technologically adept as the Dwarf Engineer, Chaosbane’s Witch Hunter does bring versatility to the table through its proficiency at both ranged and melee combat. Switching from pistols to rapier  also changes the way certain class abilities perform. For example, an area-of-effect (AoE) attack with the pistols where the Witch Hunter pirouettes while firing at enemies in all directions becomes a cone-shaped AoE attack with the rapier.

Prepared for the new console generation, Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition delivers the same dungeon-crawling experience on a gameplay level. Where the enhanced version shines, however, is in the beautiful aesthetics, silky frame rates, and expedient load times on PS5. Moreover, the new Witch Hunter class will give returning players a reason to sink their teeth back into the title, and newcomers will learn the game has countless hours of replayability despite its repetitive nature.
