Warwick Davis Played SIX Characters In Solo

Warwick Davis played a total of six characters in Solo: A Star Wars Story, the versatile actor recently spoke about his time working on that film, detailing exactly which characters he portrayed.

Davis is most well known for his role in the 1988 fantasy film Willow, although much of his work involves the Star Wars universe. His first significant role was as Wicket the Ewok in Return of the Jedi. He reprised that role for two television movies and the Disney theme park attraction Star Tours. He also portrayed characters in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. He even voiced a character in Star Wars Rebels. However, in The Phantom Menace, he was Weazel, the only Star Wars character that Davis portrayed without a mask and heavy makeup. Davis reprised that role in Solo, which reunited him with his Willow director, Ron Howard.

But Weazel was not the only character that Davis played in Solo. He portrayed a total of six characters, something he spoke about in an exclusive interview with Screen Rant before Solo’s home video release:

“The character Weazel had my… revealing that it was actually me in the flesh as it were, and it eclipsed all of the other characters in the end. I was wrapped up quite in a fair [number of] performances in the film. I was DD-BD, the droid who is first released by L3 in the droid control room. I was also another droid in that control room who gets released and goes a bit crazy, whacking his tray – he’s like a Gonk droid so he’s whacking a tray along the consoles. I was a party droid in the tavern, just before the Sabacc game – I get actually destroyed in there, quite nicely. I was also watching the Sabacc game as that hamster-like alien character – it’s a bit like a chinchilla, actually. And, what else was I? And I was, of course, Weazel in two different guises.

“And then, in Corellia, I was a spaceman. I literally look like a little astronaut. I got to ride on one of those… I think you see them in A New Hope first, those little vehicles they drive around the docking bay area, they recreated those for Solo and I got to drive around on one of those which was quite fun.”

Fans cannot fault Davis’ performance in these roles for Solo’s failure at the box office. The film began its production plagued with problems. Not only did the original two directors get replaced by Howard, but there were also massive reshoots, which led to the movie costing way more than it should have. Although Disney reused some props from other Star Wars films, including the Millennium Falcon, Solo still cost a whopping $250 million to make, making it the most expensive Star Wars movie to date. Fans also questioned Disney’s marketing of the movie, as well as their decision to release the film in May, rather than in December, like previous Star Wars films.

Interestingly enough, fans and critics gave Solo generally favorable reviews. That means that there’s a chance the home video release could help Disney break even on the movie. Many fans still want to see a sequel, and that could still happen if the sequel could happen with a lower budget. That means even more Star Wars for fans, as well as potentially more Davis.

There is a chance that fans could see more of Davis in Episode 9, too. Although there is no confirmation that Davis will show up in that film, his appearance in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi suggests he’ll show up in some form or another in Episode 9. Fans wanting to see more of Davis now, though, can look for him all throughout the Solo DVD and Blu-ray, which releases on September 25. The digital version of the film is already available.
