With the release of Watch Dogs: Legion drawing near, Ubisoft has begun detailing the post-launch plans for the game, including several features being grouped under a free “Online mode” that will launch December 3rd. Ubisoft has pledged even more free updates in the future, but for now, players will have 6 new ways to interact with Watch Dogs: Legion.

Watch Dogs: Legion, the third game in the Watch Dogs franchise, is set in a near future London that is under oppressive police state rule. Players will not star as a single protagonist, but will play as all the members of DedSec, a hacker resistance group that is recruiting citizens to fight back against the government. Players will be able to recruit nearly any NPC available in Watch Dogs: Legion to be part of their team, and will switch between them to take advantage of unique skill sets to tackle missions.

While it won’t be available when Watch Dogs: Legion launches, the free Online mode will add several new multiplayer activities to the game, starting with Open World Co-Op. Up to four people can band together and free roam the space and take part in any open world activities. To give co-op teams even more to do, Online mode will add missions specifically designed for co-op teams, and dynamic events, which will add new challenges to the open world map. Co-op players looking for an opportunity to push their skills will be able to try their hand at Tactical Ops. These missions will require four players and “efficiency and communication.” Lastly, Online mode will add Spiderbot Arena, a four-to-eight player death match mode where players will fight as the game’s spiderbots.

Watch Dogs: Legion Will Eventually Add Invasion Mode, New Game Plus

Ubisoft has also detailed out even more free content coming to Watch Dogs: Legion beyond the December 3rd update. This includes the last of the announced Online modes, Invasion, a returning feature from previous Watch Dog games. In this mode, a player can spawn into another player’s game and appear as an innocent NPC in Watch Dogs: Legion. The goal of the invader is to hack the other player, steal their data, and escape without getting caught; the player being hacked must try and find which NPC is actually the invader before they can get away.

Among other promised updates to Watch Dogs: Legion are a New Game Plus mode, new missions, and new playable characters. These new missions and characters will be separate from Bloodline DLC that will be part of the season pass for Watch Dogs: Legion. Unlike the free update, Bloodline will require an additional purchase, but will add not only former characters Aiden Pearce and Wrench, but a playable Assassin from the Assassin’s Creed franchise. While it’s surprising that some of these features, like New Game Plus, won’t be available at launch, players of Watch Dogs: Legion can expect plenty of new content coming their way in the months to come.

Watch Dogs: Legion releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC on October 29. The game will also be a launch title for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
