A new video has surfaced of fans ziplining into Godzilla’s mouth in a new theme park attraction. The first Godzilla movie came out all the way back in 1954, and today, the giant Kaiju is as popular as ever. In the last 66 years, there have been over 30 Godzilla films produced, with the franchise expanding to different mediums from books, to video games, to anime. Now, Japan has opened a theme park attraction dedicated to the King of the Monsters.

After being slightly delayed due to COVID-19, the Godzilla attraction at Awaji Island Anime Park in Japan is finally open. Fans who visit the attraction within the park can walk through a Godzilla museum with real props from the movies, purchase exclusive merchandise, and even eat at a restaurant serving Godzilla-themed dishes. The crown jewel of the attraction however, is the Godzilla zipline. Pictures of the Godzilla attraction floated around online during the construction of the theme park, but now a video revealing the giant ride in all its glory has been released.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

A new video from the 朝日新聞社 (translated to The Asahi Shimbun) YouTube account has given fans the best look yet at the park. The video gives viewers a first-person POV of a guest ziplining into Godzilla’s mouth, before showing off a shooting game and the museum section of the park. The full video can be seen below:

With Godzilla being one of the biggest cinematic icons of Japan, it’s not surprising that the monster has been given his own theme park, but the massive scale of this ride is impressive. This ride is based on Godzilla’s look in the 2016 film Shin Godzilla. That film was supposed to get a sequel, but it was announced in 2018 that Shin Godzilla 2 was canceled in favor of Toho creating a new Godzilla cinematic universe re-introducing some of the creature’s iconic foes. The American-produced Godzilla films are also continuing, with Godzilla vs. Kong slated to hit theaters next year.

With the film side of the Godzilla franchise showing no signs of slowing down, this attraction at Awaji Island Anime Park should generate a lot of business. Citizens of Japan can visit the Godzilla ride for ¥3,800, but it will be much harder for people living outside the country. Since there still isn’t a cure for COVID-19, people around the world may have a tough time traveling all the way to Japan. That being said, for die-hard fans, ziplining into Godzilla’s mouth will be something to go on their bucket list.
