Save Ralph, a star-studded short film about animal cruelty produced in partnership with Humane Society International is now available to watch for free. Written and directed by Spencer Susser, the stop-motion short stars comedian Ricky Gervais, Zac Efron, Olivia Munn, Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica), as well as MCU stars Taika Waititi and Pom Klementieff. Save Ralph was announced a week ago with a poster and short teaser introducing the film’s titular talking rabbit voiced by Waititi.

In his post announcing the film, Waititi said, “If you don’t watch it and love it, then you hate animals, and we can’t be friends anymore.” Whether or not this was meant in jest, he seems ardent about the film’s cause. Waititi first gained notoriety for his Oscar-nominated short film Two Cars, One Night in 2003, long before going on to direct and star in Thor: Ragnarok as the voice of Korg. Waititi then went on to direct and star in Jojo Rabbit as a satirical caricature of Adolf Hitler, a film for which Waititi won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. Waititi will return to the MCU to write and direct the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder sequel set to release in 2022.

Now, Waititi’s lastest performance as a rabbit’s voice can be seen in Save Ralph, a stop-motion short film produced in partnership with Humane Society International and as part of the #SaveRalph campaign, which advocates for a ban on animal testing for cosmetic products. The 3-minute short was released today and is available to watch for free on YouTube:

Using a documentary-style format, Save Ralph is centered around the titular rabbit who goes through his daily routine as a “tester” in a lab. Ralph explains that he is blind in his right eye, deaf in one ear, and has chemical burns on his back due to testing cosmetic products such as eyeliner, shampoo, and sunscreen. Though, Ralph remains relatively upbeat and positive about his job, which contrasts directly with the horrors he faces every day. The film ends with the poignant message superimposed, “No animal should suffer and die in the name of beauty.”

Save Ralph appears to be an innocent story about a talking rabbit on the surface, but it surprisingly powerful and affecting underneath. With a short runtime of just under 4-minutes, the film is easily accessible. With a star-studded cast to boot, Save Ralph will likely reach a wide audience and successfully spread its positive message about cruelty-free testing and research.
