Although Adam Neumann is most closely associated with the real estate startup WeWork, his partner and co-founder Miguel McKelvey had a massive part in the brand as well – so what happened to him after the events of WeCrashed? The Apple TV+ drama WeCrashed tackles WeWork’s downfall, as its $47 billion net worth in 2018 would completely crash and burn just a year later. The mini-series was released on March 18th, 2022, and consists of eight episodes.

WeCrashed dives into both the rise and fall of WeWork, beginning in 2008 when Neumann and McKelvey crafted their idea of an eco-friendly coworking space. In a decade, that idea skyrocketed into one of the most prominent startups in history. WeCrashed’s cast of characters stars Jared Leto as Neumann, Anne Hathaway as his wife Rebekah, and Kyle Marvin as McKelvey. The once-booming company completely failed, and in 2019, filed for an IPO, marking down its value to $10 billion. Just a month later, SoftBank, a Japanese technology company, paid Neumann $1.7 billion to step down, but it wasn’t until June 2020 that McKelvey would leave the company as well. Here is what is known of Miguel McKelvey, and where he is now.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Since exiting the company in 2019, McKelvey has stayed relatively low on the radar, not being very active on social media, and hasn’t done any type of interviews. With the release of WeCrashed, McKelvey’s whereabouts have been more closely watched by the general public, leading to some interesting reveals. As of March 2022, according to his Linkedin page, McKelvey currently works for two companies: Known Holdings and NAYAH (via Linkedin). He is an advisor for Known Holdings, a financial services company, in which he strives to provide financial support for communities of color. NAYAH, a startup that McKelvey is a partner for, invests in, “the growth and development of people and companies that align with our vision to build true community power” (via nayahstudio.com).

Miguel McKelvey Net Worth & WeWork History

Miguel McKelvey was majoring in Architecture at the University of Oregon when he met Neumann at a party in the late 2000s; together they created WeWork, officially established in 2010. As shown in Apple TV+’s mini-series WeCrashed, Neumann quickly became the face of WeWork, while McKelvey was more behind the scenes, serving as the Chief Culture Officer of the company. After SoftBank bought WeWork in 2019, McKelvey remained on staff for an extra nine months to be part of the transition. McKelvey’s 2022 net worth hasn’t been confirmed, but as of 2019, it fell to $900 million from its previous $2.9 billion (via Forbes), so it is likely continuing to get lower.

Upon leaving WeWork, Miguel McKelvey has seemed to take a more positive route, working for two up-and-coming companies with meaningful purposes. Hopefully, he took some important lessons from what went wrong at WeWork and will take those lessons on his current and future endeavors. He didn’t receive as much backlash as Neumann, who, along with his wife Rebekah, are definitely the villains of the Apple TV+ series WeCrashed, so it is possible that McKelvey can make a comeback in the business world.
