A new piece of fan art imagines what actor Aaron Paul would look like as Spider-Man villain Electro in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor is no doubt best known for his performance as Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad, but Paul has led a successful and varied career outside of his work on that AMC crime series. He’s appeared in a number of other TV shows over the years, including the Hulu cult drama The Path and the most recent season of HBO’s Westworld, in addition to being one of the recurring voice cast members on Netflix’s beloved animated comedy, BoJack Horseman. One thing Paul has not done yet though, is appear in a superhero film.

Indeed, Paul is one of the rare, recognizable actors working today who has not been cast in either a Marvel or DC film. While that may be a result of Paul having no interest in working in the superhero genre, it could also be because he has yet to be offered a role he feels compelled to play. Fortunately, a new piece of fan art has debuted online that offers up at least one idea of a character Paul could play in the MCU.

Today, illustrator and concept artist Jackson Caspersz has released his batch of fan art, this time placing Paul in the role of Electro. The pieces comes just a few days after Caspersz unveiled another fun piece of Spider-Man fan art, which imagined what John Cena would look like as Sandman. Check out the Electro fan art below:

@aaronpaul as Electro! This one was really tricky as I wanted to steer away from the ps4 version which I really liked. I went through about 10 different versions of the mask and some how happy accidented my way to this one haha. Trying to create a realistic version of such a cheesy over the top comic book suit was quite the challenge but I’m happy with the outcome. Let me know what you guys think of the casting and suit design 👍

Similar to Caspersz’s Sandman fan art, the piece does a convincing job of advocating for Paul’s casting as the Spider-Man villain. The costume, as noted by the artist himself, is also a unique mix of Electro’s various costumes from some of the previous Spider-Man comics and video games. As depicted in the artwork, this version of a live-action Electro would feel in line with some of the costumes worn by previous MCU villains. It manages to stay truthful to the character’s look in the comics, while also looking like a costume that could exist in the world of the MCU.

However, despite how well-fitted for the role Paul would conceivably be, it seems unlikely that Marvel Studios will be introducing Electro into the MCU any time soon. It has only been a few years since Jamie Foxx portrayed Electro in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and in both of the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man films, Marvel has gone out of its way to include villains who had previously not been given the big screen treatment (first with The Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming and then again with Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home). It seems like quite a lot of time would have to pass then, for Marvel to even consider pitting a live-action version of Electro against Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. There is always the possibility that the character could show up sometime down the line in another one of Sony’s planned Spider-Man films, but for now, Electro’s future in the live-action Spider-Man movies remains a mystery.
