WARNING: Spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home below

A piece of The Amazing Spider-Man 3fan art shows what the unmade Spider-Man sequel could have looked like if Gwen Stacy had survived. After Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 got poor reviews, Sony decided to reboot the franchise with Andrew Garfield in the starring role. Alongside Garfield was Emma Stone, who played Gwen Stacy for both of Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man movies. In one of the most emotional moments of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter tries to save Gwen after Green Goblin throws her down a clocktower. Peter isn’t quite quick enough, and Gwen dies instantly when she reaches the bottom of the tower.

Given the way The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ended, Peter would have dealt with the aftermath of Gwen Stacy’s death while dealing with new villains. While it isn’t known exactly who Spider-Man would have faced in the sequel, the Sinister Six were clearly teased during the film’s credits scene. Ultimately, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 never happened even though Sony was developing spinoffs and two sequels in Garfield’s Spider-Man universe. Partly due to the poor reception of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony made a deal with Marvel to let Spider-Man join the MCU. Holland’s iteration of the character has been well received, but many still wonder what a third Amazing Spider-Man movie with Garfield could have looked like.

A piece of Spider-Man art from Pabloruizzx imagines what a sequel starring Stone and Garfield could have looked like. The art shows an unmasked Peter Parker holding his girlfriend, who became Spider-Gwen. The artist’s original post can be seen below:

Even though Garfield never got a second sequel, the rumors about him appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home turned out to be true. Seeing Garfield, Maguire, and Holland team up against Green Goblin, Sandman, Lizard, and Electro was a surreal experience for long-time fans. The positive reception of Garfield and Maguire’s roles has caused fans to petition for Sony to make The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Sony hasn’t confirmed they are making another Spider-Man with Garfield, but a sequel could actually see the return of Gwen.

With the multiverse now being cannon in both Raimi and Webb’s films, Spider-Gwen could easily come in from an alternate universe to reunite with Peter. There were also reports that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 would have dealt with the resurrections of dead characters. There was even a deleted scene revealing Oscorp had cryogenically frozen Norman’s head, meaning he could have been an instrumental part of forming the Sinister Six. It’s unknown how The Amazing Spider-Man 3could have resurrected Gwen, but it would be very easy to bring back Stone for a future sequel with the multiverse now in play.
