What Baby Luke Skywalker In The Star Wars Prequels Looks Like Now [Updated]

Star Wars legend Mark Hamill shares his astonishment at how old the actor who played baby Luke Skywalker in the prequel films is now. In the closing scenes of 2005’s Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Aidan Barton portrays both Luke and Leia as newborns.

In Episode III, Padme finally learns the truth about her husband Anakin Skywalker going to the dark side, after which she gives birth to twins, names them Luke and Leia, and then proceeds to die of a broken heart. Luke and Leia are separated for their own safety and kept a secret from their father, now Darth Vader. Obi-Wan Kenobi spirits Luke away to his aunt and uncle on Tatooine, while Leia is adopted by Bail Organa. At the time, Vader is left devastated by Padme’s death, and led to believe that the babies died with her. It’s not until Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope – in which Hamill made his Star Wars debut – that Vader begins to suspect the truth.

Now, the original Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill has shared a fun fact about the actor who played the pivotal baby roles of the very much alive Skywalker children in Revenge of the Sith. [UPDATE: Hamill has posted another tweet, this time with the correct photos of the actor. Take a look, below.]

While Barton’s role in the last film of the prequel trilogy had no dialogue, his role as the two most important children in the Star Wars universe made a huge impact. While the prequel films are typically lambasted for not coming close to living up to the original trilogy, many Revenge of the Sith regard as the best movie out of the three, with baby Luke and Leia’s first appearance acting as the perfect prologue to A New Hope. 

Mark Hamill’s tweet is more than likely poking fun at himself when posting about baby Luke, particularly with his humorous hashtag of ‘time waits for no one.’ Hamill recently reprised his role as an older, more jaded Luke in Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi. The Star Wars hero spent the whole film rejecting Rey’s pleas to help the Resistance fight the First Order, mainly out of guilt over his former student and nephew, Ben Solo turning to the dark side and becoming Kylo Ren. Luke eventually comes to the Resistance’s aid, but dies sacrificing himself with one final, heroic act. 

With anticipation building for the December release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it’s fun to be entertained during the wait by the original Luke Skywalker – a role Hamill is reprising in the final trilogy film, possibly as a Force ghost as many have theorized. For his part, Hamill has kept his lips sealed about what Luke will be up to in the new film, leaving fans waiting until the release of the upcoming Star Wars movie to find out.
