Biomutant has a multitude of classes and upgrades to seek out, from Wung-Fu skills and Psi-powers to Mutations and class perks. Even the little green fellow, the Automaton who follows the player around, can obtain some upgrades that will help the player in the long run. While none of the little guy’s skills are bad, there are some that are better than others.

Two of the four upgrades depend on a person’s playstyle in Biomutant – the Health Injector, and the Power-Up. These items can be used as a bonus healing item, or as a way for some extra firepower. However, Health kits are seemingly unlimited in Biomutant’s world, to the point where a player’s inventory will have hundreds after exploring, and once they get the hang of their builds the amount of DPS increases significantly. There are also the bonuses that come with upgraded gear and crafted weapons in Biomutant which eventually makes the Health Injector and Power-Up obsolete later on.

Ultimately, those two upgrades are situational and depend solely on the player using them. While they can be helpful for a class like the Psi-Freak who have less vitality, there isn’t as much of a need for them halfway through the game. This makes the Air Glider and Turret the best upgrades for the Automaton. These two upgrades are used the most throughout the entirety of Biomutant as players progress through the many biomes of the world.

The Best Upgrades For The Automaton

Air Glider: The Air Glider is overall the best upgrade in Biomutant and the one that most people pick up first. This ability allows players to glide through the air and see Biomutant’s beautiful landscapes after performing a double jump. This is also one of the most-used Automaton abilities for the simple fact that some loot lies in unreachable places that can’t be climbed. The parachute allows players to get the height advantage and float down on top of the loot; a much easier option than trying to Mucus Bubble jump off invisible walls, or glitch some fungi onto places it usually can’t go. The ease of use and the change in verticality throughout the map make the glider a must-have for those who want to venture out into the world and see what Biomutant has to offer.

Turret: The Turret for the Automaton is the next best upgrade, as it will automatically assist players in combat. The Turret fires five shots every few seconds as enemies close in. While in the early game its damage output is great against small enemies, it becomes a bit lackluster in Biomutant’s endgame. There is, however, a perk that can be utilized to increase the damage by 100%, making it much more useful. Even with the damage output not being so great near the end, another perk allows the Turret to stagger oncoming enemies. This makes it much easier to get combos off without getting interrupted, making the turret a great support item for facing down multiple enemies.

In the end, Biomutant’s Automaton upgrade order really depends on how each gamer plays and utilizes these upgrades with their specific build. Experimental 101 is already addressing issues with players finding too many health items, which could make the Health Injector much more useful, so some of these upgrades may move up the list as patches continue to release.
