What Bucky’s MCU White Wolf Costume Could Look Like

A new piece of fan art imagines what The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes could look like in a White Wolf costume. Sebastian Stan’s Bucky has come a long way since first appearing, and seemingly dying, in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). Similar to his arc in the comics, Bucky’s reveal as Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s titular antagonist was the first step on the brainwashed super soldier’s path to redemption, something that culminated in Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier explores Sam Wilson’s struggle to inherit the shield left to him by Steve Rogers. When the screen reads “Captain America and the Winter Soldier” in the finale, he’s truly the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s star-spangled man. Things appear less certain for Bucky, who not only spends the six-episode series helping Sam calm John Walker and stop the Flag-Smashers but attends therapy and make amends for his wrongdoings as the Winter Soldier. By the end of the series, it’s revealed that Bucky has crossed every name off his list. However, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier didn’t do what many expected it would: discard the latter’s problematic moniker in favor of the White Wolf persona given to him by Wakanda.

Digital artist Spdrmnky XXIII on Instagram recently shared some art imagining what Bucky could look like as the White Wolf in future MCU outings. The piece is titled “Captain America and the White Wolf” and sees Sam wearing his Captain America costume from the show and Bucky wearing a white and black combat suit (as opposed to the black he wears in the series). In the comics, Bucky mostly retains the Winter Soldier identity before doing a stint as Captain America when Steve Rogers is presumed dead at the end of the first Civil War. The actual White Wolf is a Black Panther character unrelated to the Captain America comics. The comic book White Wolf survives a plane crash in Wakanda as a boy and is subsequently raised by King T’Chaka; the only thing Bucky has in common with that character is a familiarity with Wakanda. That said, the moniker’s MCU usage is mainly a fun reference for now.

With the newly announced Captain America 4 and a possible second season of the Diseny+ series, Bucky should continue to be heavily featured in the MCU. Bucky’s storyline moving forward might even adhere to the comics and see him join Nick Fury in the upcoming Secret Invasion series, but it’s more likely he’ll stick with Captain America and/or keep an eye on whatever Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and John Walker (U.S. Agent) are up to. Regardless, there’s a chance Marvel leans into the White Wolf moniker and sees Captain America and the Winter Soldier season 2 re-titled Captain America and the White Wolf.
