Dark Souls 3 is known as one of the best games in FromSoftware’s notoriously difficult, yet highly acclaimed, Soulsborne series of games. As is the case with any good video game, there are many great mods that can add to the experience of Dark Souls 3. Of all of the mods that are currently out there for the third installment to FromSoftware’s most popular video game series, perhaps none of them are more noteworthy than Dark Souls 3’s Cinders Mod.

Available for download on Nexus Mods, the Cinders Mod was first created for Dark Souls 3 gamers to use on January 3rd of 2019. Ever since then, it has continued to offer fans of the series a very interesting twist to its final installment.

The Cinders Mod completely changes Dark Souls 3 from the ground up. “Cinders aims to provide a fresh experience through Dark Souls 3,” the mod’s description on NexusMods reads. In order to provide Dark Souls 3 players with this “fresh experience,” the Cinders mod makes various significant gameplay changes throughout the entirety of Dark Souls 3. Here are what those changes are, and why they enhance the experience for returning players.

Dark Souls 3 Cinders Mod: What It Does

The first change the Cinders mod makes to Dark Souls 3 is to the game’s progression. With the Cinders Mod in use, progression becomes much less linear for players. New options are provided to travel between various areas and worlds. The placement of Dark Souls 3’s enemies and bosses are also changed around to make the experience a little fresher. Bonfires have new options, covenants have a brand new offering system, there’s a new curse system, and there’s a new mark system.

Entirely new features have been added to Dark Souls 3 in the Cinders Mod as well. There are new weapons and armor sets for players to pick up and/or use. The magic system has been totally redesigned to “operate in a more fluid way.” New movesets and weapon arts have been added, along with new classes, gifts, merchants, and additional NPC enemies. For players that find the Cinders Mod to make Dark Souls 3 a little too necessarily difficult, companions can now be summoned for longer periods of time to aid those players.

There are plenty of gamers out there eagerly awaiting the next few releases from FromSoftware. Many of those fans are hoping for Dark Souls 4 to eventually make its way onto the shelves, although at this point, it is unclear if that is ever going to happen. Nevertheless, for those who want to play another Dark Souls title during the long wait for Elden Ring, the Cinders Mod for Dark Souls 3 is the next best thing to getting a new game.
