With no release date in sight, Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 may be years from launch, but that hasn’t stopped fans of the first game from wondering what exciting stuff is in store for Cloud and his friends in the follow-up. Because of the first FF7 Remake‘s ending, with the protagonists leaving the giant city of Midgar, the natural next step would be to explore the surrounding areas. If FF7 Remake Part 2 follows along a similar story path of the original game from 1997, then it’s only a matter of time before Cloud, Aerith, and the rest of the gang end up at the Gold Saucer.

In the original Final Fantasy VII, the Gold Saucer was a desert paradise where gamblers could spend big and players could waste dozens — maybe even hundreds — of hours playing mini-games for GP, the in-house currency. Since then, the Gold Saucer has been a bit divisive, with players either reminiscing about the fond memories they made in Wonder Square or raging at the hours lost to chocobo racing. Regardless, the Gold Saucer is an iconic location from Final Fantasy VII, which means there’s a good chance developer Square Enix will implement it into FF7 Remake Part 2 in some way. But what will the Gold Saucer in FF7 Remake Part 2 actually look like?

It’s very unlikely Square Enix will implement the exact same mini-games into FF7 Remake Part 2 that existed in the original. Some favorites will probably make the cut, like Mog House, which involved feeding a moogle Kupo Nuts to help him find a mate. Battle Square, which served as the game’s combat arena, is probably safe too – especially considering that most modern RPGs have an optional arena anyway. Wonder Catcher (a cutesy crane game) and Super Dunk (a timed basketball shoot) are a bit too simple and were never much fun to begin with, so those could easily be removed. FF7’s Chocobo Racing will likely remain in some capacity, although it will hopefully be given some serious quality of life upgrades.

How FF7 Remake Part 2’s Gold Saucer Could Differ From The Original

In trying to learn what the Gold Saucer might be like in FF7 Remake Part 2, look no further than the Manderville Gold Saucer in Final Fantasy XIV. This variation was added into the MMORPG a few years ago, and receives routine improvements alongside XIV‘s content updates, where it features a weekly jackpot lottery and daily scratch-off tickets. This kind of mechanic could work well in FF7 Remake Part 2, since it requires very little of players (i.e. it’s not a time sink) and a weekly lottery would be a great way to keep players going back to the Gold Saucer once they’ve left that part of the story behind.

One of the biggest complaints hurled at the original FF7 Gold Saucer was the rewards system. Often, precious items were locked behind hours of chocobo racing and breeding, or excruciatingly long sessions of grinding up GP. FF7 Remake Part 2 could follow XIV‘s approach by making the rewards less desirable and more fun. Most of XIV’s prizes are unique outfits or mounts that aren’t vital or all-powerful. Alternate outfits are a big part of many AAA games lately, so this could be an ideal way to fix the original’s problems while adding in something fans will adore.

With Final Fantasy 7 Remake releasing only a few months ago, details are still scarce on its sequel. Square Enix will likely take their time, sprinkling out new information as the attention turns to next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X. News regarding Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 will hopefully surface soonas fans anxiously await the game’s arrival, and hopefully when it does come, the Gold Saucer will remain intact.
