Professor McGonagall’s time at Hogwarts didn’t come to an end following the conclusion of the Harry Potter series. Actress Maggie Smith portrayed the half-blood witch throughout the movies based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved novels.

Minerva McGonagall, who was mostly referred to as Professor McGonagall, was the Transfiguration professor at her alma mater, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Not only was she the head of the department, but she was also the Head of Gryffindor House. McGonagall may have been a stern leader but she prioritized protecting Harry Potter and the students at Hogwarts. During the First Wizarding War, McGonagall helped the Ministry of Magic by spying on Death Eaters, and when the Second Wizarding War came along, she decided to join the Order of the Phoenix. She greatly opposed Dolores Umbridge and the Ministry’s influence on Hogwarts. That tension boiled over, sending McGonagall to the hospital after being hit by a Stunning Spell while standing up for her colleagues. Minerva bounced back in time to participate at the Battle of the Astronomy Tower.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Following Albus Dumbledore’s death, Professor McGonagall took over as the Headmistress of Hogwarts. She remained at Hogwarts after Lord Voldemort took over and appointed Severus Snape as the acting Headmaster. With the Battle of Hogwarts approaching, McGonagall put the safety of her students first, evacuating the younger students and using the help of fellow Order of the Phoenix members to fortify the castle. When the Death Eaters broke through, McGonagall stood her ground and battled through the night. She survived the deadly battle but that wasn’t enough to convince her to call it quits on her career.

Professor McGonagall Continued Serving As Hogwarts’ Headmistress

Even though McGonagall’s age has been the topic of much debate, she was rumored to be in her mid-60s during the Battle of Hogwarts. After the war ended, she was awarded the Order of Merlin by Minister for Magic Kingsley Shacklebolt due to her loyalty to the Order of the Phoenix. Once the school overcame the destruction, McGonagall returned to her position as Headmistress of Hogwarts and stayed in the role until at least the 2020-21 school year. It’s assumed that McGonagall had a part in Neville Longbottom’s hiring as the new professor for Herbology.

When Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy got into trouble by using the Time-Turner in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it was McGonagall who tipped off their parents when the pair didn’t arrive at Hogwarts. The former Transfiguration professor helped the group uncover the young boys’ plan in going back in time to save Cedric Diggory. When Albus and Scorpius returned to the normal timeline, she made it a point to teach them a valuable lesson involving the wizarding wars and the sacrifices that were made to create a peaceful world. It’s safe to say that Professor McGonagall never lost a step when it came to molding young minds following the events of the Harry Potter series.
