Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: The Bad Batch episode 1, “Aftermath.”

Caleb Dume, also known as Kanan Jarrus, appears in the Star Wars: The Bad Batch episode 1, and here’s what happens to him after the show and before Star Wars Rebels. The Jedi was one of Star Wars Rebels‘ main characters throughout its four-season run. After a quick cameo in Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7, the young Caleb Dume made a surprise appearance at the very beginning of Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

Caleb’s role in Star Wars: The Bad Batch episode 1 sees him involved in recruiting the Bad Batch to help him and his Jedi master Depa Billaba fight Republic forces on Kaller. This comes moments before Order 66 is issued by Emperor Palpatine, which results in a retcon to Caleb’s origin. According to the comics, Caleb fights the clones who turn on him and Depa Billaba before he manages to escape. Although Star Wars: The Bad Batch now presents different and conflicting details about the events, it still leaves Caleb in a place where he is without his Jedi Master and needs to hide from the Empire.

It is unknown if Caleb Dume will appear again in Star Wars: The Bad Batch, but the comics have already revealed what happens to him next and before Star Wars Rebels. After he saw the clones kill Depa Billaba, Caleb traveled to Plateau City in an effort to run. However, he discovers there are clones there with a holoimage of him and with orders to kill him on sight. The homeless and starving young Jedi was soon befriended by Janus Kasmir, a Kalleran scoundrel from Kaller. Caleb found refuge aboard his ship, the Kasmiri, and later stole it from Kasmir after receiving a message to return to the Jedi Temple. Once Caleb learned this was a trick setup by the Empire, he returned to Kaller but Janus kicked him out of his ship.

Caleb and Janus became partners in crime only a few weeks later when the young Jedi jumped into action to save Kasmir from an attack by a local gang. Janus helped Caleb change his appearance and identity so that it was not as easy for anyone to recognize him as the wanted Jedi Padawan that he was. The pair go on several missions together after this and form a true friendship. After all this time with Janus, Caleb suggested that his partner begins working with the former Confederacy general Kleeve instead. Caleb leaves the criminal life behind with his new ship, the Escape, and travels to Moraga, where he begins calling himself Kanan Jarrus.

As Kanan, Caleb took on many different jobs in the years that followed and hid his Force powers from the galaxy. This led to him eventually finding a home on the moon Cynda, which is where he first encountered Hera Syndulla. They quickly began working together to investigate Count Denetrius Vidian and it was during their various missions that Hera discovered Kanan’s Force abilities. At the conclusion of this mission, Kanan offers Hera a place as a crew member on his new ship, the Ghost. In the time that followed, Kanan and Hera recruited Sabine Wren, Garazeb ‘Zeb’ Orrelios, and Chopper to join the crew prior to Star Wars Rebels beginning. Now fans will have to wait and see if Star Wars: The Bad Batch adds anything more to Caleb’s story.
