Ubisoft’s new game has fans of Greek mythology on an epic adventure in Immortals Fenyx Rising. The game was released across most platforms, allowing fans of any console to jump in and explore the colorful Breath of The Wild-inspired artstyle. Players can customize armor, battle mythical creatures, and help save the gods on their own personal odyssey as Fenyx, the accidental hero of the story. With Hermes at their side, players will be able to immerse themselves in a truly stunning game, but some may find many of the mechanics look awfully familiar.

Immortals Fenyx Rising has a strong resemblance to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and the similarities make sense. Both Ubisoft games were developed by the team Ubisoft Quebec, and the mechanics which made Assassin’s Creed Odyssey such a joy to play have been reimagined for Immortals Fenyx Rising. In many cases, when games translate these similarities from title to title within a development team, it can feel lackluster. However in this case, the reuse of well-honed mechanics makes Immortals Fenyx Rising feel solid both in exploration and in combat.

Ubisoft’s team recreated Assassin’s Creed’s climbing mechanics for Immortals Fenyx Rising, with a dash of Breath of the Wild for inspiration. Players can scale just about anything around them, and are encouraged to do so, as items and craftables are often hidden within the landscape around them. They must also reach certain points of of height on varying objects in order to survey their surroundings and fill out their map. This is very much like Assassin’s Creed, where vantage points allow the player to advance in whatever location they are currently exploring. The climbing mechanics look clean in Immortals Fenyx Rising, and there haven’t been many bugs or issues, as the gameplay was already well understood by the development team.

Immortals Fenyx Rising Takes Inspiration From Assassin’s Creed

Another mechanic players might find similar is preforming stealth attacks. While the player isn’t sporting a hidden blade in Immortals Fenyx Rising, they do have the ability to sneak up on foes using the surrounding landscape as cover. They can then leap out and do a great deal of damage to an unsuspecting victim. Again, the gameplay for this kind of attack is smooth and well integrated because the developers had already spent time perfecting it. While stealth attacks aren’t a critical part of combat, it is definitely a fun mechanic to make use of.

Players may also find, when they are looking at their map, it has elements which are inspired by games like Assassin’s Creed OdysseyWith the ability to mark treasure, objects of interest and puzzles from vantage points, players can then open their map and select any item they wish to seek out. The use of these successful mechanics in Immortals Fenyx Rising makes for clean, enjoyable gameplay that isn’t riddled with many gameplay issues. The inspiration the development team took from Assassin’s Creed makes this new Greek adventure a pleasantly immersive experience for fans of exploratory games.

Immortals Fenyx Rising can be played on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5.
