TikTok is where many of the internet’s biggest trends and memes are created, including the viral brownie recipe that keeps appearing in TikTok video comments. Trying to keep up with every viral trend/challenge/meme on social media is all but impossible now. Right as something is going viral, there’s another big thing right behind it, followed by something else, and the cycle keeps repeating. This is true of all social media apps, but it’s especially common on TikTok.

Thanks to its growing user base and excellent content algorithms, it doesn’t take much for something to go viral on TikTok. That’s great if you’re always looking for something new to watch, but it also means there’s an enormous amount of content to sift through. In March 2022, TikTok’s “look at this distinguished gentleman” trend became so popular that Jason Voorhees himself (actor Kane Hodder) got involved with it. We’ve also seen TikTok users invert their faces for the Deja Vu Challenge, upload dancing videos for the Too Loud Challenge, and a whole lot more.

As of late March, it seems another trend has gone viral on TikTok. But it’s not a new dance or challenge. Instead, users keep seeing the same comment for a brownie recipe on all sorts of videos. If you look at the comments on any TikTok video, chances are you’ll see the following comments: “Anyways here’s the recipe for brownies: 1/2 cup butter, 2 eggs, 1 cup sugar, 1/3 cup cocoa powder, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, 1/2 cup flour.” And that’s it. There’s no other context for the comment — just a random brownie recipe and nothing more.

Why The Brownie Recipe Comment Is So Viral On TikTok

Making the brownie recipe comment all the more bizarre is that its origins are unclear. It started showing up on TikTok comments at some point in March 2022, but who started the trend or where it first went viral is unknown. Wherever the brownie recipe comment began, there’s no rhyme or reason for which videos it now appears on. Whether you’re watching TikTok videos of funny cats, a dancing challenge, comedy skits, etc., just about any video can have the brownie recipe somewhere in its comments.

While some people may find the brownie recipe comment funny, it’s clear that other TikTok users are either over it or just confused. Twitter user @JouleEsters Tweeted, “why in the tiktok comments for any video they b giving the recipe for brownies???.” User @kyrascosplays also Tweeted, “Why are people randomly putting a recipe for brownies in tiktok comments? Am I missing a joke?”

For anyone who’s used TikTok for a while, you probably know that the brownie recipe isn’t the first comment trend to have its moment in the spotlight. An earlier trend saw TikTok users putting sparkle emoji around their text, while another trend saw lots of users leaving blank comments on videos. Whether or not the brownie recipe comment is better or worse is up to you to decide, but it’s the one TikTok users can’t get enough of right now.
