What Is The ‘Too Loud’ Challenge On TikTok & How Do You Find It?

TikTok has become famous for its ever-changing challenges/trends — and one of the latest ones is the ‘Too Loud’ Challenge. If there’s one social media app that’s taken the internet by storm over the last couple of years, it’s TikTok. The video app debuted in 2017 without much fanfare. Within a couple of years, however, it reached 1 billion downloads by early 2019. And it’s only gotten more popular since then. TikTok keeps adding features, more users keep joining, and it shows no signs of leaving any time soon.

Part of the reason for TikTok’s wild success is all of the trends and challenges that go viral on the app. In early 2021, loads of TikTok users started sharing videos of themselves with a popular ‘no beard’ filter. There’s also been the viral (and dangerous) ‘Blackout Challenge,’ a ‘Deja Vu Challenge based on the Olivia Rodrigo song by the same name, and plenty more. If something’s trending on the internet, there’s a good chance it originated on TikTok.

As of March 2022, one of the latest TikTok challenges to go viral is the Too Loud Challenge. While the name makes it sound like the challenge is about listening to something at a high volume, the Too Loud Challenge is actually a dancing challenge. The name comes from the song Cash App by rapper Louie Ray — and the challenge itself is pretty simple. TikTok users play the song over their video, record themselves dancing to it, and that’s it. The name of the challenge comes from a lyric in the song where Ray says, “it’s getting too loud.”

How To Find The Too Loud Challenge On TikTok

If you want to find the Too Loud Challenge for yourself, it’s just like finding any other challenge on the app. Open TikTok on your phone, tap the search icon in the top right corner, and search for ‘too loud challenge.’ This shows any videos on TikTok with the hashtag ‘#tooloudchallenge’ in the video. The search results page shows the Top videos by default. You can also tap ‘Hashtags’ below the search bar to see all of the hashtags associated with the challenge. The ‘#tooloudchallenge’ and ‘#tooloud’ are the most popular, accounting for 33.4M and 120.6M views, respectively, at the time of publication.

Before diving too deep into this, just be aware that most of the videos for TikTok’s Too Loud Challenge feature people twerking to the song. Some of the videos are more suggestive than others, so it’s probably best to keep younger users away from the challenge. That said, there are some funnier and more appropriate takes on the Too Loud Challenge, too. One user combined the song with Minecraft sound effects, and the result is pretty hilarious.

As with any TikTok challenge, it’s hard to say how long the Too Loud Challenge will stick around. It’s quite popular for the time being, but considering how quickly the TikTok world moves and changes, it’s bound to be replaced with something else sooner rather than later. But that’s exactly what keeps TikTok so interesting. Today it’s the Too Loud Challenge that’s taken the platform by storm, tomorrow it’ll be something else, and the day after that there will be another thing.
