A Reddit user has recently shared their interpretation of what Jurassic Park would have looked like had it been helmed by James Cameron. Jurassic Park was, of course, a smash-hit for director Steven Spielberg released back in 1993. The film follows the story of scientists who discover the key to bringing dinosaurs back to life in order to display them in a theme park. The film was a massive success which spawned two sequels and the popular Jurassic World series.

With such a legacy behind the original film, it’s hard to imagine it being helmed by any director other than Spielberg. However, it turns out that Titanic and Avatar director Cameron originally had his eye on the project. Reportedly, Cameron had intended to buy the movie rights to Michael Crichton’s novel of the same name, only to discover that Spielberg had beaten him to it.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Now, Reddit user u/Robotwig has shared their interpretation of what Cameron’s Jurassic Park would have looked like. The images posted are created through a mix of posed action figures, practical effects, coloured lights, and some digital work. Both images posted by u/Robotwig seem to draw heavily from Cameron’s work on Aliens. The first image depicts two raptors being hunted by army officers in uniforms similar to those worn by the main cast in Aliens. The image is lit from behind in the same stark style many of Cameron’s sci-fi films such as Terminator and of course Aliens often are. The scene is shown to be taking place in the rain. While the image actually looks quite realistic, the finished product is accompanied by a second image which shows the action figures without any additional effects. The difference between the two images is truly impressive.

The Reddit user later posted a second work which draws even more inspiration from Cameron’s Aliens. The image depicts Bill Paxton’s character Private Hudson, coming face to face with a raptor. The image is lit with the same stark blue lighting, and once again seems to be in a rain storm. It does seem that Private Hudson is about to meet his end. As one user pointed out in the comments, Hudson truly can never catch a break.

Both images depict a much more dystopian sci-fi look than Spielberg gave to the film. It is clear that u/Robotwig did their homework. It is likely that any Cameron fan will have no trouble believing that these images are stills from an up and coming Cameron film. While it is true that Cameron later admitted that after seeing Jurassic Park he conceded that he was not the right director to make the film, it is very interesting to take a look into an alternate universe and see what might have been. Reddit user u/Robotwig has truly given fans a very realistic look into what might have been if the world had been able to see Cameron’s Jurassic Park.
