The inclusion of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask to Nintendo Switch Online’s upcoming N64 catalog potentially lessens the chances of the games being remastered for Switch. Still, it is possible that the other 3D Zelda games not on Switch could still arrive on the Switch in the form of a Zelda remastered collection. So, just how likely is it that Twilight Princess and Wind Waker will come to Switch now?

Nintendo has previously utilized remastered collections to bring older games to the Switch. Super Mario 3D All-Stars, for example, bundled three 3D Mario games from older consoles together. Even with Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask coming to Switch Online, bringing the final two 3D Zelda games to Switch in this way seems like a feasible option. This seems especially likely considering how Wind Waker and Twilight Princess have been rereleased in the past.

Putting Wind Waker and Twilight Princess in a remastered Switch collection makes sense, as the two games already have remastered versions. Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD were both released for the Wii U, receiving both graphical and mechanical updates. With the games already fine-tuned, creating updated Switch versions like Skyward Sword HD might not be too lengthy of a task. Adding them both simultaneously in a collection could also be more enticing to consumers; given that Wind Waker and Twilight Princess‘ HD releases on Wii U came out only a few years ago, asking players to pay twice to have both on the Switch could lead to backlash.

A 3D Zelda Collection For Switch Could Include New Wind Waker And Twilight Princess Content

Considering that Wind Waker and Twilight Princess might be the only titles to appear in a 3D Zelda remastered collection for Switch, the games could compensate for the missing N64 games by having additional added content. Perhaps new, optional dungeons could be added to the games, similar to how Twilight Princess HD added the Cave of Shadows. Alternatively, the games could have modes similar to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest, drastically changing the layouts of the games to provide a new challenge even for those familiar with the titles. Such an expansive increase in content could make the Switch editions of these games the definitive versions and justify a two-game collection.

However, it might be many years before Wind Waker or Twilight Princess make it onto the Switch if Nintendo decides to favor the release of new games. Brand new titles like Breath of the Wild 2 or complete remakes like Link’s Awakening may be considered a higher priority than ports of older games and release sooner. Still, if the rumors of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess remasters are true, Legend of Zelda fans may find these games available on Switch sooner rather than later.
