The official release dates for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Pokémon Legends: Arceus have been confirmed by Nintendo this week, sparking excitement for Pokémon fans eager to embark on their next adventure. However, some fans may be wondering if this news could impact a potential upcoming release date announcement for the highly anticipated Zelda sequel, The Legend of ZeldaBreath of the Wild 2.

Currently, fans can expect Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl to release November 19th, 2021. The remakes have teased a minimal amount of gameplay, showcasing a cute art style and locations reimagining the original Diamond and Pearl maps and towns. Pokémon Legends: Arceus will also take place in Gen 4’s Sinnoh region, with the game set long before the timeline of the current main Pokémon series. The open-world Pokémon game is set to release January 28th, 2022, just a few months after Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was announced at the gaming conference E3 in 2019. Since then, little has been released about its development, and when it might be available for fans to play. Breath of the Wild 2 will be set sometime after the events of Breath of the Wild according to Nintendo’s trailer seen during E3 2019. The suspenseful announcement trailer shows Link and Zelda investigating what could be the origins of The Legend of Zelda’s Ganon, potentially awakening a new, powerful monster in the process.

Nintendo May Release Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 in 2022

Because Nintendo will be publishing two big Pokémon titles in the coming months, it is possible Breath of the Wild 2’s release date could be pushed out until the spring of 2022 or later. The original Breath of the Wild released in early spring of 2017, making 2022 the 5-year anniversary of the incredibly popular Zelda title. It would also space out these big release dates for Nintendo, so the games don’t all pile up on each other. While it is possible Breath of the Wild 2 may get a surprise 2021 summer or fall launch date to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda game series, this seems unlikely due to the upcoming Nintendo Switch release for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, slotted for July 16th, 2021.

However, E3 2021 will be happening from June 12th through the 15th, and many fans are hopeful Nintendo will have news focused on Breath of the Wild 2. Currently, there aren’t any official announcements on what Nintendo plans to cover during their E3 showcase, but with luck, Zelda fans will get an update on development, and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl could tease further gameplay to get players excited for the upcoming titles.
