To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Pokémon has announced that the rap/rock superstar Post Malone will be headlining a virtual concert on Pokémon Day later this February, and the announcement video ended by revealing Post’s virtual character. Seeing a digitized Post Malone sparked the question, which six Pokémon would this music icon have on his team if he were a trainer in one of the games?

Despite being one of the biggest music artists in LA, Post Malone has no shame for his love of video games. On a number of occasions, Post Malone has live-streamed on Twitch while playing games with friends and has tweeted a number of times in reference to some facet of nerd culture. While the virtual Pokémon concert seems like a promotional stunt, Post Malone has been a long-time fan of Pokémon and has referenced the games a few times online.

So if Post Malone were ever added to a Pokémon game, which Pokémon would be on his team? His obvious love for music may draw him to more musically inclined creatures, while his grungy fashion and facial tattoos may fit well with some of the series’ edgier Pokémon. Here are the six Pokémon Post Malone may recruit to be a part of his dream team.

Post Malone’s Pokémon: Obstagoon

Obstagoon is a dark/normal type Pokémon introduced in Pokémon: Sword & Shield and is the right-hand man of the Spikemuth gym leader Piers. Piers is a musician himself, and Obstagoon is often associated with music. In the game’s final cutscene, Obstagoon is the frontman for a band of Pokémon. His black and white stripes along with his powerful vocals would fit perfectly on stage next to Post Malone.

Post Malone’s Pokémon: Toxtricity

Another Gen 8 Pokémon with musical prowess, Toxtricity uses the chords on its chest to play itself like an electric or bass guitar. Toxtricity and Obstagoon are two of the Pokémon that appear in the band at the end of Pokémon: Sword & Shield, and they fit together very well despite their clashing colors and patterns. Post Malone wouldn’t look out of place positioned between these two Pokémon, and they could put on a pretty awesome jam session.

Post Malone’s Pokémon: Loudred

Lousdred would be a great addition to Post Malone’s musical trio, seeing as he could amplify their sounds kicking their performance up a notch. Loudred is known as the big voice Pokémon and its two ear-stalks act as speakers that are powerful enough to blow away a house. With the massive concert halls that Post Malone performs in, taking Loudred might also cut down on the cost of equipment.

Post Malone’s Pokémon: Alolan Raichu

There isn’t much of a reason for Raichu other than the sick lightning bolt tail symbol on the back of Post Malone’s jacket in the Pokémon concert announcement. However, there is precedence for this.

Trainers in-game usually dress similar to the Pokémon they have, and Post Malone would look pretty cool next to a surfing psychic Raichu while wearing a lightning bolt-clad bomber jacket. Plus, a psychic would make the ultimate roadie.

Post Malone’s Pokemon: Smeargle

Smeargle is a no-brainer choice for Post Malone’s Pokémon game dream team. Not only is Smeargle one of the most powerful Pokémon around thanks to its Sketch ability, but it also would make for a great tattoo artist on the go.

Post Malone’s Pokémon: Shiny Charizard

Post Malone is an OG fan of Pokémon, and an interview with Billboard revealed that he still has a Game Boy Color specifically to play Pokémon. As such, it would only make sense for Post to have a Gen 1 Pokémon on his team, and who better than Charizard. However, if Charizard is going to pursue the lifestyle of a rapper/rockstar, he’d be better suited as his all-black Shiny variant.

Those are the six Pokémon that would make for a pretty rocking team alongside an in-game Post Malone. Of course, Post could form a team of all musical Pokémon to form one of the greatest fictitious bands of all time, or take the more traditional route of having a team of Pokémon that all share the same typing. Regardless, it would be interesting to know which Pokémon Post Malone would actually pick.
