A new fan poster for Obi-Wan Kenobi imagines what Qui-Gon Jinn could look like if he were to appear in the upcoming Disney+ series. Qui-Gon Jinn was Obi-Wan’s master who was introduced in George Lucas’ first Star Wars prequel, Star Wars: Episode I- The Phantom Menace. Despite the character being well-received, Liam Neeson hasn’t been seen in live-action since Darth Maul killed his character at the end of the movie. Neeson has however returned to voice his character a few times in the animated Clone Wars series and at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

At this point, there are a few characters confirmed for Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ewan McGregor is, of course, returning to his Jedi role 17 years after he was last seen in Revenge of the Sith. Hayden Christensen is also confirmed to be reprising his role as Darth Vader, which means the series could feature Clone Wars flashbacks with Anakin and Obi-Wan. A young Leia will reportedly be part of the show’s story, as will Bail Organa. Jimmy Smits played Organa in Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and was a trusted ally to the republic and Obi-Wan himself. Other returning cast members include Joel Edgerton (Uncle Owen) and Bonnie Piesse (Aunt Beru), but Disney+ will likely throw in a few more surprises when the series premieres in May.

One of those surprises could be Qui-Gon Jinn, and a new fan poster from Guiillegfx imagines what that could look like. The poster shows Qui-Gon as a Force Ghost as the suns set on Tatooine. Even though Neeson has denied his involvement in the series, that hasn’t stopped fan speculation, which is evident from the artwork below.

Like many popular Star Wars characters, death doesn’t necessarily mean the character can’t come back. Yoda teased at Qui-Gon Jinn returning as a Force ghost near the end of Star Wars: Episode III- Revenge of the Sith, so including him in Obi-Wan Kenobi would make sense. Qui-Gon could be seen as a Force ghost to provide his former padawan guidance as he protects Luke Skywalker and deals with the aftermath of Anakin turning to the dark side. Neeson could also appear in a flashback if the Star Wars show decides to give more information on Obi-Wan’s backstory and how he came to be under Qui-Gon’s guidance.

With the popularity of Qui-Gon Jinn, there is a good chance Disney could have brought Neeson back for Obi-Wan Kenobi. Most fans would love to see him come back, and it would also make sense narratively. That being said, if Qui-Gon Jinn returns as a Force ghost, it’s very likely Disney will save that surprise until the series debuts on Disney+. People are already excited to see McGregor again, so it’s possible big cameos like Qui-Gon Jinn won’t show up in any of the initial marketing material.
