One of the three upcoming demos for Resident Evil Village recently released for PlayStation owners. This demo offered more insight into the world that Ethan Winters finds himself in after the kidnapping of his daughter, Rosemary. Unlike the previous Maiden demo, which was a PlayStation exclusive in January, these latest Resident Evil Village demos from Capcom will contain gameplay taken from the final release of the game.

There is still a lot of mystery surrounding Resident Evil Village, and what its story holds for protagonist Ethan Winters. While the inclusion of series mainstay Chris Redfield has been hailed by fans, many have been left theorizing whether the once hero may have turned, as he can be seen shooting Ethan’s wife and kidnapping his daughter in previously released trailers.

But while the trailers and snippets that fans of Resident Evil have been teased with so far have offered no more information, the latest Village demo has given some (although not many) clues surrounding the titular setting, and Ethan’s plight, including introducing the inhabitants of the snowy village. Up until now, players have seen little of the inhabitants within Resident Evil Village, other than a brief clip of them praying to the mysterious Mother Miranda in a trailer. In the latest demo, however, Ethan Winters meets several of them in quick succession.

Resident Evil 8 Demo: Who The Villagers Are

Ethan first meets Elena after an altercation with a group of Lycans that terrorize him within a crop field. Elena calls to Ethan from a nearby house and lets him take shelter there. Elena is visibly shaken by the events that have been unfolding outside and is accompanied by her elderly father, Leonardo, who has been injured by the monsters. This first meeting shows that the residents within Resident Evil Village are not used to new faces. Both Elena and her father are wary of Ethan, with her father referring to Ethan as an “outsider” and warning Elena of telling him too much.

Ethan manages to earn a bit more trust from Elena and her father, and Elena reveals that the monsters roaming the village are not usually there, but have only recently arrived. Up until now, the residents have been living under the protection of Mother Miranda (or so they believe). On entering Luiza’s house, an apparent safe haven for the village residents, Ethan then meets the rest of the village’s survivors. The arrival of the monsters has clearly been devastating for the village. Again, the Resident Evil Village residents are wary of Ethan, and repel his presence in the house. One particularly vocal inhabitant, Anton, predicts angrily that the arrival of Ethan (again calling him an “outsider”) will far from guarantee their safety and that tomorrow “they will all be dead.

This Village demo for Resident Evil 8 ends with Ethan Winters once more alone and searching for more clues to the whereabouts of his daughter, as well as the strange goings on around him. His brief time spent with the village’s inhabitants highlights the fear surrounding the events happening around him, as well as further enhancing the strange hold that Mother Miranda appears to have instilled on the once quiet settlement.
