Continuing a trend of multi-platform support from Capcom, Resident Evil Village – out May 7 – is available on PC as well as Xbox, Stadia, and PlayStation. The flexibility of the PC platform can sometimes be its downfall, however. It’s harder to optimize a game for an infinite range of parts configurations, and seeing graphics at their best can sometimes necessitate machines costing $2,000 or more. Thankfully, Resident EvilVillage’s system requirements don’t appear to be particularly demanding, unless players want ray tracing or resolutions over 1080p.

As far as consoles go, the game will run on everything from PS4 or Xbox One onwards. A PS5 or Xbox Series X/S is definitely recommended, though, not just for 4K resolution or raw speed but for reducing load times. Both consoles use SSDs instead of HDDs, which can shrink load times to just a few seconds. Indeed, on the PC side, it’s increasingly hard to even find HDD configurations outside of budget systems.

At a bare minimum, according to Steam, Resident Evil Village‘s minimum requirements demand an Intel Core i5-7500 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 560, and 8 GB of RAM. This can get players to 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second, but only by using the game’s “Prioritize Performance” setting. Even then, users should expect framerates to drop in more intense scenes. For a better experience, Capcom recommends a Core i7-8700 or Ryzen 5 3600, a GeForce GTX 1070 or Radeon RX 5700, and 16 GB of RAM.

The Best Version Of Resident Evil Village Can Be Costly

To see both maximum detail and ray tracing effects, players will want at least an RTX 2060 or RX 6700 XT for video, according to Tom’s Hardware benchmarking tests. But while these are fine for 1080p, the RTX 2060 tops out at just 23.3 fps when set to 1440p resolution, and it can’t handle 4K at all unless ray tracing is turned off. Realistically, seeing Resident Evil Village at its peak – 4K, max detail, ray tracing, and 60+ fps – means having at least an RTX 2080 Ti or RX 6800. Players sitting directly in front of a monitor should be able to drop to 1440p without any visible difference.

The details of Resident Evil Village‘s PC system requirements are probably welcome, given the scarcity of state-of-the-art video cards at the moment. A combination of factors, including pandemic conditions and the crush of cryptocurrency mining, has sometimes meant waiting weeks or months to find a card at a reasonable price.
