What Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ Nuform Is & What It Does

Although it has many story threads interwoven, at the heart of the main plot of Spider-Man: Miles Morales is Nuform. This new form of clean energy affects many of the characters, both directly and indirectly. However, it’s eventually revealed to be incredibly harmful despite its environmental promise. So, what exactly is Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ Nuform, and what all can it do?

Early on in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Nuform is introduced as a potential new clean energy source. The substance is being developed by Roxxon, an energy corporation, and Rick Mason. Rick is the older brother to Phin Mason, Miles Morales’ childhood friend and possible love interest, and Rick’s technological wizardry is why both Phin and Miles admire him.

However, Rick Mason soon discovers that Nuform in Spider-Man: Miles Morales is incredibly hazardous, which is why Rick is killed by Roxxon’s founder, Simon Krieger. Krieger wants to cover up Nuform’s harmful effects in order to make a profit. Rick’s death fuels the story of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and eventually Miles and Phin both realize that the true villain is Roxxon’s Simon Krieger – who wants to make and sell Nuform no matter the cost. But just how dangerous is Nuform supposed to be?

Why Nuform Is So Dangerous In Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Originally, Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ Nuform was intended to be a clean energy source that could power cities for centuries. While Rick Mason wanted to develop it for humanitarian reasons, Simon Krieger’s mind was more concerned with money. Eventually, Rick discovers that Nuform is actually quite hazardous and that the dangers surrounding it outweigh its energy properties.

Nuform isn’t just dangerous in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, though – it’s deadly. Prolonged exposure to the energy source can cause a variety of life-threatening issues. Bone marrow decay and other grizzly fates await people who’ve been exposed to Nuform, which is why Rick was trying to stop Roxxon from releasing it across the globe. Ultimately, Miles Morales and Phin are able to stop Nuform from causing irreparable damage to the public by the end of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, but it comes at a high price for the characters.

Nuform serves as a sort of MacGuffin in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, since it’s something Roxxon and the Tinkerer’s group, The Underground, are fighting over. Eventually, it even leads Miles to discover the Tinkerer’s true identity and reveals Simon Krieger to be the true villain of the story. It’s an important aspect of the plot, and it’s one that affects nearly every character in the game.
