Caution: Spoilers Ahead for The Book of Boba Fett Episode 5

What did the Armorer make for Grogu in The Book of Boba Fett episode 5? With how protective Din Djarin is of Grogu—dubbed “Baby Yoda” by millions of adoring fans—it makes sense that he would want him to have some sort of armor, especially now that Grogu is continuing his Jedi training. As such, with both Din and the Armorer returning in The Book of Boba Fett episode 5, “Return of the Mandalorian”, it was the perfect opportunity for the show to capitalize on that.

In episode 5, Din reunites with the Armorer and gives her his Beskar spear from The Mandalorian season 2 episode 5 to forge into armor for Grogu. While forging the armor, the Armorer implies that Din’s actions will be a hindrance for Grogu since Jedi are taught to forego attachments, something that is the opposite of The Way of the Mandalorian people. Nevertheless, she keeps at it, and soon enough, Grogu’s new armor is complete.

The audience is never actually shown what the Armorer forged for Grogu, but there are some easy enough guesses to make about it. The wrapping used for the armor is made in the shape of Grogu’s head, so that could be hinting at it being a helmet. Additionally, episode 5 opened with Din burning himself with the Mandalorian Darksaber in a fight, so it’s also possible that that inspired him to make Grogu something for his legs so the same thing wouldn’t happen to him.

The most likely option for Grogu’s armor, however, is some sort of chainmail. Something that goes around the torso fits the most classic interpretations of armor, so it would make sense for Din to want something like that for Grogu. As for why chainmail, specifically, metal rings were shown during the forging process, and chainmail is composed of tiny metal rings. The biggest hitch in this idea is the wrapping itself, which appears small enough to fit into Din Djarin’s hands, making the armor inside even smaller. Whatever is inside may not be big enough to fit around someone like Grogu who, while small, isn’t quite small enough to fit into the palm of Din’s hand.

Whatever the case, The Book of Boba Fett doesn’t show what Din had the Armorer make for Grogu, so all that can be done at the moment is speculate at what it could be. However, the ending to “Return of the Mandalorian” heavily implies that Din is going to deliver the armor to Grogu before helping Boba Fett and Fennec Shand deal with the conflict with the Pykes. Assuming their reunion doesn’t happen offscreen, the true identity of Grogu’s armor could be revealed as early as The Book of Boba Fett episode 6, but could also be saved for The Mandalorian season 3.
