Warning: SPOILERS Below For Cobra Kai Season 1!

Cobra Kai season 2 is almost here, but when will it premiere and what can fans expect? YouTube Red’s hit series, Cobra Kai, continues the story of The Karate Kid over 30 years after Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) defeated Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) to win the All-Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament. After the events of season 1, Cobra Kai season 2 is poised to pick up the rivalry between Daniel’s Miyagi-do dojo and Johnny’s resurgent Cobra Kai karate school.

When Cobra Kai season 1 began, Daniel was a happily married family man and owner of a successful car dealership. Meanwhile, Johnny was a broke, alcoholic “loser” who reopened the Cobra Kai dojo to make ends meet and recapture the glory of his teenage years. Despite Johnny’s boorish behavior, he attracted new karate students, including a protege named Miguel (Xolo Maridueña), who started dating Daniel’s daughter Samantha (Mary Mouser). But when Daniel saw Cobra Kai resurrected, he began using all of his resources to stop the nightmare of his high school years from coming back. It all culminated in a showdown at the All-Valley Karate Tournament where Daniel coached Johnny’s estranged son Robbie (Tanner Buchanan) against Miguel, backed by Johnny.

Cobra Kai Season 2 Premiere Date

YouTube confirmed the Cobra Kai season 2 premiere date for April 24 on YouTube Premium. Even though Cobra Kai season 2 was ordered by YouTube very early, it was impossible for the new season to premiere in 2018, but debuting in early 2019 is the next best thing. Production on Cobra Kai season 2 recently wrapped, after first getting underway on September 26, 2018, in Atlanta and Los Angeles. They even perfectly recreated the late Mr. Miyagi’s house, which will be the location of Daniel’s dojo.

Cobra Kai Season 2 Story

When Cobra Kai season 1 ended, Johnny got his revenge on Daniel when he coached Miguel to win the All-Valley Karate Tournament. However, Johnny saw that his methods actually corrupted Miguel and his students after his protege won by beating his own son, Robbie. Instead of elation, Johnny felt even more defeated before he received an unpleasant surprise: the reappearance of his abusive old sensei John Kreese (Martin Kove, who joins Cobra Kai season 2 as a series regular). Meanwhile, Daniel rededicated himself to teaching Miyagi-style karate to counter Cobra Kai and turned the home of the late Mr. Miyagi into his new dojo, where he’s taking in new students, including Robbie and his daughter Sam.

Cobra Kai season 2 is poised to pick up right where season 1 left off: Miguel and his fellow Cobra Kai are now winners but they’re bound to become even bigger “jerks” now that Kreese is back in the picture. Daniel has to control his own worst impulses as he tries to follow in Miyagi’s footsteps as sensei. Cobra Kai season 2 will also introduce even more new characters, including Peyton List as Tory, a troubled teen new to the valley, to further complicate Johnny and Daniel’s eternal rivalry. A full-length trailer for Cobra Kai season 2 released in early April and can now be viewed above.
