It wouldn’t be surprising if Netflix’s successful animated comedy Disenchantment were renewed for a season 5 and here’s everything that’s known about it so far. Premiering on Netflix in August 2018, the show quickly gained a loyal following and positive reviews. From producer of The Simpsons and Futurama, Matt Groening, Disenchantment follows the story of Princess Bean in the medieval kingdom of Dreamland. Along with her elf companion Elfo and the demon Luci, she embarks on wacky adventures across the fantastical setting. Season 4 of the show was released February 9, 2022.

In Disenchantment season 4, the main trio has been divided between Heaven and Hell. After Queen Dagmar’s ploy to overthrow Dreamland in Disenchantment season 3 failed, different groups now battle for control of the kingdom. With Dreamland having a myriad of mythological threats and political opponents, the heroes of the series have many challenges to face. In addition to their external threats, Bean also continues to grapple with her identity throughout season 4.

Some deciding factors on the future of Disenchantment are if the creators (specifically Matt Groening) want to continue with the show, as well as how well the most recent season performs. All signs are pointing to the show once again finding success with the latest season. Here’s everything we know about Disenchantment season 5.

Disenchantment Season 5 Renewal

Based on the ending to season 4, and the tumult still raging in Disenchantment‘s world of Dreamland, it is likely that the creators will be pushing for a season 5. As of right now, there has been no confirmation of a renewal, from Netflix, but that’s understandable due to season 4 just having been released. Netflix has historically given a series about a month to two months to look at the viewing data before making an official decision on renewal or cancellation. However, it’s hard to imagine that Disenchantment season 4 wasn’t a success, and it should likely have continued interest from producers and Netflix. With that being the case, Disenchantment season 5 could be announced within the next few months.

How Disenchantment Season 4’s Ending Sets Up Season 5

Disenchantment uses a lot of foreshadowing, so the season 5 plotline may already be established. Season 4 ended with Bean defeating the evil version of herself that had been tormenting her dreams, but also thrown into the ocean by her mother Dagmar. There, she was saved by her mermaid lover Mora. For Disenchantment season 5, this sets up the continuing struggle between Bean and Dagmar, as well as a certain love story involving Mora. Viewers also got a glimpse into how powerful Bean might be, especially in her dream state, which will likely play a major role in the next season.

Disenchantment Season 5 Cast: Who Could Return

If the show moves forward with a season 5, many of the characters have unfinished stories to continue. Returning cast from Disenchantment season 4 would likely include Abbi Jacobson as Princess Bean, Eric André as Luci, Nat Faxon as Elfo, Sharon Horgan as Queen Dagmar, Meredith Hagner as Mora the Mermaid, John DiMaggio as King Zøg & Freckles, and Tress MacNeille as Queen Oona, Prince Derek & The Ogre Queen. At the moment, no new voice actors have been cast for Disenchantment season 5, which makes sense as it’s not yet been confirmed.

Disenchantment Season 5 Predicted Release Date

Again, a release date for Disenchantment season 5 depends on if and when Netflix decides to renew it. There’s historically been about a year in-between seasons, so, assuming Netflix officially confirms a fifth season within the next month or two, audiences could see Disenchantment season 5 coming to Netflix as soon as February/March of 2023 and at the very latest, next summer. That means that hopefully, audiences will have another season of Disenchantment to look forward to in the coming year.
