Warning: SPOILERS for Invasion Season 1 ahead.

Here’s what can be expected from sci-fi drama Invasion season 2. Apple TV+ renewed the show on the eve of the release of Invasion season 1, episode 10, its season finale. Invasion was created by Simon Kinberg and David Weil, and its first season told the story of an earth-wide alien invasion from the perspective of four characters, mom Aneesha Malik (Golshifteh Farahani), Navy SEAL Trevante Cole (Shamier Anderson), JASA technician Mitsuki Yamato (Shioli Kutsuna), and schoolboy Caspar Morrow (Billy Barratt). The show followed their journeys of putting up with the alien invasion on three different continents.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Invasion season 1 ended with the world celebrating the presumed defeat of the aliens trying to invade the Earth, although all main characters felt the crisis had not been avoided yet. In the final scenes of Invasion season 1 finale, alien particles could still be seen interacting with alien bodies, and giant spaceships were spotted looming over the ocean and the Amazon rainforest. While all four protagonists seemed to have come to terms with the fact that critical situation was their new reality, planning their survival or enjoying the little things of perceived normality, the rest of the world clearly had not caught on.

Season 2 was just recently officially announced, and its episodes will likely have a runtime of averagely 45-50 minutes each, just like the first season’s ones did. Considering how the alien invasion was portrayed as ongoing, despite the alien beings seen killing humans and animals alike throughout season 1 stopped moving all together at the same time, it can be assumed only the first part of their plan was done. Invasion season 2 will probably follow Aneesha, Trevante, Mitsuki, and Caspar as they try to deal with the subsequent parts of the alien’s plan to invade Earth.

Apple TV+ Renewed Invasion For Season 2

On December 9, the day before Invasion season 1 finale aired, Apple TV+’s official Twitter released the news that Invasion season 2 was in the works. The announcement came as a surprise, as not only had season 1 not finished airing yet, but its reviews were also mixed. Both critic and audience reviews weren’t overly positive, with the show rating at 46% based on critics’ reviews and 44% based on audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Invasion Season 2 Possible Release Dates

A release date has not been announced yet. Nevertheless, considering when the renewal was announced and the challenging production, as Invasion season 1 was shot on three continents, its closest possible release would be in Fall 2022. This would only happen if all things went to plan, though, and since the 200-million-dollar production took two years to shoot Invasion season 1 because of Covid-19 restrictions, season 2 could also be released in Fall 2023.

Invasion Season 2 Story Details & Returning Characters

Plot details about season 2 are not available yet. Nevertheless, Aneesha, Trevante, Mitsuki, and Caspar should all return, although Caspar was presumed dead at the end of season 1 as he showed no brain activity. Still, he appeared in a dream-like state, where he could be seen receiving a present from Hinata’s father, Ikuro Murai (Togo Igawa), possibly a representation of him created by the aliens probably communicating with him. Aneesha and the children of the Malik family, Luke (Azhy Robertson) and Sarah (Tara Moayedi), should return as well, as they were last seen surviving in the woods, far from other people. Trevante will also seemingly come back, although he might end up breaking his promise to his wife, Learah (Tamara Lawrance), as he will be needed to fight the alien invasion. Finally, Mitsuki should come back too: she was still reeling from the death of her partner Hinata (Rinko Kikuchi), but as she was one of the very few capable of communicating with aliens, she will probably be needed by JASA in Invasion season 2.
