What To Expect From Netflix’s Vampires Season 2

Netflix dropped the first season of French teen vampire drama, Vampires, in late March 2020, but will it be back for season two?

The streaming platform’s latest vampire-centric show takes place in a world where vampirism is real and caused by a mutated gene. But Doina is in a precarious situation. As the daughter of a human man and a female vampire, she technically still has the gene. But thanks to a medication created by her father, she’s able to suppress the gene. Doina goes off her meds and gets a taste of the bloodsucking life. Once she’s off the medication, it turns out there’s no going back. But the human side of her DNA offers an interesting twist — she drinks blood and has the strength of a vampire, but she’s able to walk in the sun, unlike her fully-vampire family members. This makes her highly desirable to a dangerous underground community of vampires.

The ending of Vampires season one leaves a lot of loose ends and offers new complications for a potential season two. Here’s what audiences can expect.

Vampires Season 2 Renewal

At the time of writing this article, Vampires was just released. It is far too soon to know whether or not it will be renewed for a second season, as potential renewal all depends on viewership numbers. As this show was released in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, millions across the globe have been largely confined to their homes for the time being, making fresh content on streaming more popular. Netflix has seen so much action during the global quarantine that it had to reduce streaming quality in Europe to prevent internet overload. That could potentially give Vampires‘ viewership a boost, leading to a renewal.

Vampires Season 2 Release Date Info

While the Coronavirus outbreak may have led to a boost in numbers for Vampires, it also has the potential to delay the production on a second season. Nearly every show and movie that was set to release in the coming months has been delayed. While a second season of Vampires wouldn’t be released that quickly, it’s hard to say what the ripple effects of all these delays will be. Should the show get renewed, audiences can likely expect it in by later in 2021 or 2022 at the very earliest.

Vampires Season 2 Story Details

By the end of Vampires‘ first season, Doina has become fully immersed in the world of vampires. Her half-human, half-vampire blood caused quite the uproar in the community, as it was found to have healing properties. This propelled a series of events that caused Doina and her family to destroy the community, for the sake of their future. Not only is the status of the vampire world up in the air, but so is Doina’s love life. At the beginning of the season, she began a relationship with Nacer, a human boy from her school. But Nacer was repulsed once he discovered her secret. Doina turned to Ladislas, who is the son of the former community leader, Csilla. The love triangle rings slightly reminiscent of another vampiric love triangle from The Vampire Diaries. 

Perhaps the most shocking revelation is the reappearance of Doina’s human father Redouane. Doina’s brother Andrea comes face-to-face with their father in the final moments of the season. But it’s clear that he is no longer human — Redouane is now a vampire. He approaches Andrea with a very menacing stare as the final episode cuts to black. Should Vampires receive a second season, it will undoubtedly explore the downfall of the community, Doina’s new relationship, and Redouane’s villainous return.
