Here’s what fans can expect from Scream Queens season 3 if the Fox series gets the green light for a revival. The horror-comedy show was created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan – the three minds behind Glee. Murphy and Falchuk also notably created American Horror Story, a show that served as a game-changer for anthology TV programs.

Scream Queens took some of the horror elements from American Horror Story, but used a more satirical approach. The show initially focused on a sorority at Wallace University that was being threatened by Dean Cathy Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis). The sorority was led by Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts) along with her core followers, Chanel #3 (Billie Lourd) and Chanel #5 (Abigail Breslin). The sorority, and the rest of the campus, then became targets of a serial killer disguised as the school’s Red Devil mascot.

Scream Queens season 2 brought back the survivors of the first massacre and evolved their storylines following their exit from Wallace University. Despite the series ending in 2016, fans have shared their interest in another season. Murphy remains positive regarding the chances for a revival, but the ball seems to be in Fox’s court for the time being. Here’s everything there is to know about the status of Scream Queens and what a season 3 could look like.

Scream Queens Was Cancelled After Season 2

Following the success of Scream Queens season 1 in 2015, Fox renewed the series for a second season consisting of 10 episodes. Season 2 shifted focus from a college campus to a hospital and featured the return of the major cast, including a few key guest stars. The season ran from September to December in 2016. Five months after its conclusion, Fox announced the cancellation of Scream Queens. Dwindling viewership numbers were to blame for the decision.

Netflix Could Revive Scream Queens For Season 3

Fox originally developed and aired Scream Queens, so the network still owns the rights to the series. Murphy took to social media earlier this year to gauge fan interest about a possible season 3. Following the conclusion of American Horror Story: 1984, Murphy was asked about the potential third season in an interview (via Deadline). He stated that popularity for Scream Queens has grown since its cancellation, due to Hulu viewership. Murphy then urged fans to contact the network regarding their request for a reboot. If Murphy is serious about reviving the series and Fox doesn’t support the idea, he could look to regain the rights to the series and move it to Netflix. In 2018, Murphy signed a five-year developmental deal at the streaming giant.

What Scream Queens Season 3’s Story Could Be

Since Scream Queens wasn’t cancelled until well after the second season concluded, the series left a few loose ends for a possible continuation. The debut season notably focused on the serial killer, the Red Devil. As the series moved into season 2 a new villain, the Green Meanie, took center stage. The drama that plagued the C.U.R.E. Institute closed out, but the series revealed what happened next to the characters that came out unscathed.

Hester Ulrich (Lea Michele) stole Dean Cathy Munsch’s money and killed a bunch of tourists at Blood Island. Chanel #5 and Zayday Williams (Keke Palmer) became members of the hospital’s top medical team. Chanel Oberlin started a doctor show and Chanel #3 served as her manager. At the end of the season 2 finale, Chanel was approached by the Red Devil. This gives a reboot the opportunity to follow the return of the original serial killer. The Red Devil would surely target the main characters, and this could force them back together to deal with the latest threat.

Who Could Be In Scream Queens Season 3’s Cast

As part of Murphy’s recent interview, the Scream Queens creator revealed that Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Billie Lourd, Abigail Breslin, and Jamie Lee Curtis agreed to return if the series was revived. It’s possible that other major stars could return including Keke Palmer, Niecy Nash, and John Stamos. Due to Murphy’s prominence in a number of TV series, it’s likely that he could attract a number of other big names to fill out a stellar cast list for Scream Queens season 3.
