What can Hulu subscribers expect from The Act season 2? The first installment of the true crime drama series focuses on the story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and the 2015 murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. The Act season 1 examines the effects of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a mental condition in which someone is led to believe they have some type of illness.

In The Act season 1, Joey King stars as the wheelchair-bound Gypsy Rose, and Patricia Arquette stars as her mother Dee Dee. The narrative mostly takes place between 2008 and 2015, with flashback sequences establishing the appropriate context about the disturbing mother-daughter dynamic. In the penultimate episode of The Act season 1, Gypsy and her boyfriend Nick Godejohn (Calum Worthy) set off for Wisconsin and inadvertently reveal themselves as murder suspects, in part to their alarming Facebook posts. They are subsequently arrested for Dee Dee’s murder, and Gypsy Rose’s long-time friends discover some shocking truths. The Act season 1 details how Gypsy Rose was continuously deceived by her mother, of which led to a tragic murder.

The Act season 1 concludes with Gypsy Rose’s conviction for second-degree murder, but can The Act season 2 still happen – either continuing Gypsy Rose’s story or focusing on another true crime event? Here’s what we know about The Act season 2.

The Act Season 2 Renewal

As of now, The Act season 2 hasn’t been ordered by Hulu. Whereas Netflix and Amazon typically renew series three-to-six weeks after the conclusion of a season, Hulu appears to operate differently. For context, the Hulu anthology series Castle Rock premiered on July 25, 2018 and was renewed on August 14, 2018 – shortly before the sixth episode aired. Meanwhile, Hulu’s second anthology series Into the Dark also premiered in 2018 and will conclude in September 2019. As of now, Into the Dark hasn’t been renewed. So it might be some time before The Act season 2 is announced, if it even moves forward, but there’s potential seeing as it was still a success for the service.

The Act Season 2 Release Date Info

Since The Act season 1 marks the beginning of a potential anthology series, it’s possible that Hulu will take some before making an official announcement about The Act season 2. Meaning, the story will likely change, so the main cast will likely change as well. If Hulu maintains the current schedule for their three anthology series currently on the air, then The Act season 2 will mostly likely release in March 2020. That gives Hulu plenty of time to establish a new storyline and cast before production commences. The Act season 1 was initially ordered in May 2018 and filmed from October 2018 to February 2019.

The Act Season 2 Story Details

At the moment, the real-life Gypsy Rose Blanchard is currently in jail, so it’s unlikely that The Act season 2 will expand on her story. Instead, Hulu may settle on a new true crime story, whether it’s from the last decade or focused on a famous historical case. Interestingly, anthology series have become quite popular in recent years – from a true crime show like American Crime Story to a regular crime series like True Detective. The Act could continue that trend but on Hulu, and given how popular season 1 has been with audiences, season 2 could very much follow that path.
