Shudder has renewed The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs for another round of double features, and here’s what fans can expect from season 3. Famous for both his film criticism and work as a show host since back in the mid-1980s, the now 67-year-old Briggs has seen his career rejuvenated in a big way in the last couple of years. Briggs is of course a character played by a man named John Bloom, but sometimes it can be a bit hard to decipher where exactly his personal opinions and redneck character differ.

Briggs’ statements can sometimes be controversial, but for the most part, he remains a beloved figure in the horror community. Briggs’ greatest fame came as host of TNT’s late night movie block MonsterVision, a gig he held from 1996 to 2000. Just when many thought the time of the horror host was completely extinct, the Shudder streaming service saw fit to resurrect MonsterVision in all but name, hiring Briggs to host The Last Drive-In.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The Last Drive-In began with a 24-hour marathon so successful that it was followed by additional marathons, then a weekly series beginning in 2019. Season 2 aired from April to June 2020. Now, Shudder has made The Last Drive-In season 3 official, with Briggs at the helm for even more drive-in totals.

The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs Season 3 Release Date

The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs was renewed for season 3 on July 14, 2020. A release date has yet to be announced, but it’ll arrive sometime in 2021. Season 1 premiered in March, and season 2 in April, so a spring release seems likely, presuming production can safely occur before then.

The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs Season 3 Details

As with all prior instances of The Last Drive-In on Shudder, fans shouldn’t expect movies to be revealed in advance of airtime. The first two seasons consisted of nine weekly double features, and there’s no reason not to expect that pattern to continue. As an added treat, Briggs will return for the “Summer Sleepover” mini-marathon on August 14, 2020, meaning fans don’t have to wait until 2021 for more Joe Bob.

Movies We’d Like To See In The Last Drive-In Season 3

The Last Drive-In usually covers movies already on Shudder, although they do occasionally have episodes that coincide with a movie’s Shudder arrival. Many fans have been lobbying for Briggs to review Halloween 3: Season of the Witch, as has Joe Bob’s sidekick Darcy the Mail Girl. Hopefully that finally comes together in 2021. As for movies currently on Shudder that The Last Drive-In has yet to cover, some great choices include Maniac Cop, The Return of the Living Dead, Ginger Snaps, Dog Soldiers, and The Beyond.
