Transformers: Siege is only the beginning for this darker, grittier version of the Autobots and Decepticons, as the Netflix series is the first in a planned trilogy called War For Cybertron. Siege chronicles the final day of the Autobot/Decepticon war on Cybertron, as the series ends with the Autobots’ spacecraft, the Ark, warping out into space. Transformers fans know where that vessel is likely headed, and if there was any doubt, the title of the next series makes it clear — Transformers: Earthrise.

The third and final chapter in the trilogy was just recently revealed to be Transformers: Kingdom, a time travel story that will unite the characters of Generation 1 and Beast Wars, much to the delight of long-suffering Beast Wars fans.

So when can fans expect the new installments, and what other aspects of the franchise will be introduced? The following is everything publicly known about the future of the robots in disguise (so far).

Transformers: War for Cybertron Season 2 Release Date

While the second series, Transformers: Earthrise, was presumably given the greenlight at the same time as Siege, there’s still no concrete date for the sequel series. Siege was an infamously slow production — the Siege toyline had been on most toy shelves for over a year by the time the animated series was ready to roll out. Netflix has made no announcements about when Earthrise might drop, though fans probably shouldn’t be holding their breath for another installment in 2020; early 2021 seems like the earliest feasible release window. The pandemic will likely delay things somewhat, though animation is obviously less affected than live action productions.

Transformers: War for Cybertron Season 2 Story Details

While no images have been released from Transformers: Earthrise, clues about that series’ setting and cast can be pulled from the toyline, which has already been available for several months. Fans know that the Autobots and Decepticons make their fated landing on Earth, taking up Earth alternate forms and beginning their war anew.

The more interesting question might be how Earthrise connects to its third entry, Transformers: Kingdom. That third entry will see a crossover with characters from Beast Wars. Originated in 1996, Beast Wars was a radical reinvention of both the toyline and fiction of the Transformers franchise. Gone were the Autobots and Decepticons, replaced by their successors, the Maximals and Predacons. When a rogue Predacon calling himself Megatron steals a precious artifact and a time traveling space ship, the Maximals follow, where they crash land on a strange, energon-rich planet.

Beast Wars is one of the more beloved iterations of the Transformers franchise, though it’s been largely dormant in the 21st century. If Kingdom gives fans something half as good as Beast Wars, then this could be a truly special trilogy.
