What We Do In The Shadows introduced Sheila the siren – here’s every project you might know the actor from. Season 3, in true What We Do In The Shadows fashion, has had its fair share of ridiculously hilarious episodes, including Nadja and Nandor becoming the leaders of the Vampiric Council, vampire hunter Guillermo being promoted to the household’s bodyguard, and a Vegas trip gone awry. Season 3, episode 9 introduces another bizarre storyline involving a siren.

“The Siren” follows Colin Robinson and Laszlo en route to Plum Island to investigate Colin’s vampiric origins, since energy vampires operate differently than regular run-of-the-mill vampires. Their trip is interrupted by a local siren named Sheila, who has enchanted them with her voice but not necessarily her looks, which Colin Robinson is quick to point out are hideous. As he explains, Greek and Roman mythology paint sirens as birds, and Sheila’s half-woman and half-chicken. The longer Colin Robinson stays with Sheila, the more they become enamored with each other.

Sheila the siren is played by Catherine Cohen, a New York comedian who’s appeared in a variety of bit and larger roles. Most recently she’s been in Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens as Jennifar, Dating & New York as Jessie, Search Party as Miami, and in The Lovebirds as Mrs. Hipster. She is set to appear in the newest Home Alone movie as Mrs. Claus in Home Sweet HomeAlone, due to release in November on Disney+. In addition to her television and film roles, Cohen is also the author of a poetry book entitled God I Feel Modern Tonight: Poems From A Gal About Town and has performed on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Like many other comedic cameos on the show, Cohen is perfect for the role as Sheila because of her career in comedy and the silly nature of Sheila’s character.

Since its premiere in 2019, What We Do In The Shadows has featured several noteworthy cameos like Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement, the writers and directors of the original film. The season 1 finale alone racked up an all-star cast of stars including Tilda Swinton, Paul Reubens, Evan Rachel Wood, and Wesley Snipes, among others. Scott Bakula also makes an appearance in season 3, episode 7 as himself, since Nadja and Nandor mistake him as “Count Bakula.” Another episode early in the series also included a cameo from Helena Garcia, one of the bakers from The Great British Baking Show.

What We Do In The Shadows may not feature Sheila the siren again, despite Colin Robinson’s lingering feelings for her. But Catherine Cohen’s portrayal does help enhance another zany storyline of the show and brings more humanity to a misunderstood myth. As the third season progresses, it’ll be interesting to see who else turns up to upend the vampires’ lives.
