Apple has begun rolling out updates to iOS 14.7 and iPadOS 14.7, providing iPhone and iPad owners with a few welcome bug fixes and some quality of life features. Apple is still scheduled to release iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 later this fall, but in the meantime, the company has pushed out this smaller patch as another stepping stone to get to the big 15 update. When it launches later this year, iOS 15/iPadOS 15 will bring new FaceTime features, Focus modes, a revamped Weather app, and the ability to place widgets anywhere on an iPad’s home screen.

In between those milestone upgrades, Apple frequently releases smaller ‘point’ updates like iOS 14.7. This past May, iOS 14.6 launched with new features for AirTag and Find My, an update to the Voice Control accessibility feature, and expense-tracking for Apple Card Family. Prior to that, iOS 14.5 came out in April with App Tracking Transparency, additional Siri voices, an updated interface for Apple Podcasts.

Although iOS 14.7 isn’t a massive software update, Apple indicates there are still a few welcome additions that iPhone owners will be happy to see. Any timers set on a HomePod can now be managed in the Home app, a new option in the Podcasts app allows users to see all shows or only followed ones on the Library page, Apple Card Family users can combine credit limits and share a co-owned account with another Apple Card user, and Air quality data has been added to the Weather and Maps apps for users in Canada, France, Italy, Netherlands, South Korea, and Spain. Additionally, iOS 14.7 updates the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro devices to support the MagSafe Battery Pack that was announced last week.

Other iOS 14.7 & iPadOS 14.7 Changes

Outside of new features, iOS 14.7 fixes a few pesky bugs that were lingering in iOS 14.6. Apple Music has received two bug fixes, including a patch for the share playlist menu option missing and Dolby Atmos/Lossless songs unexpectedly stopping. For iPhone 11 models, Apple fixed a bug that caused battery service messages to disappear after a reboot. And, last but certainly not least, iOS 14.7 fixes a bug that caused braille displays to show “invalid information” when composing messages in the Mail app. Apple hasn’t released the full changelog for iPadOS 14.7 quite yet, though it’s expected to feature all of the same applicable updates included in iOS 14.7 (such as HomePod timer control and new Podcast viewing options in the Library).

For anyone interested in downloading iOS 14.7 or iPadOS 14.7, doing so is quite easy. Open the Settings app, tap ‘General,’ tap ‘Software Update,’ and it’ll automatically check for either update. Tap ‘Download and Install’ towards the bottom of the screen, enter the device passcode to confirm the update, and then wait for it to finish. If the update isn’t showing up right away, wait a few minutes and check back later.
