Warning: SPOILERS for 9-1-1 Season 5

With an explosive midseason finale, 9-1-1 left audiences wondering when season 5 would finally return to Fox. Historically, the show has aired split seasons before as many other series have been doing over the past few years, which has given the writers additional opportunities for creating nail-biting suspense that leaves fans guessing about what could come next. In true 9-1-1 form, there were cliffhangers galore in the midseason finale that will need to be answered in the second half of season 5.

Focusing on the high-intensity lives of police officers, firefighters, and dispatchers, a number of unexpected events have happened recently in the show, even before the latest midseason finale, like how in season 5, Eddie helped the escaped convict, much to the surprise of viewers. In seasons past that have followed the 118 during their Christmas festivities, it seemed as though 9-1-1, season 5, episode 10, “Wrapping in Red,” would come to a close without any more surprises, but simply filled with cheer just like any other holiday episode. But of course, during this midseason finale, the creators took advantage of this heartfelt time to drop the most shocking reveal yet when Eddie (Ryan Guzman) told Buck (Oliver Stark), Hen (Aisha Hinds), and Ravi (Anirudh Pisharody) that he would be leaving the 118 for good. One of the biggest questions fans will of course want answering in the Spring premiere is whether or not Eddie is really leaving 9-1-1.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

According to IMDB, 9-1-1 season 5, episode 11 will air on Monday, March 21, 2022, at 8/7c on Fox, confirming theories elsewhere that the show would return sometime in March of this year. This season is following a similar pattern from season 3 when that midseason finale also aired in December of 2019 and then continued on in March of 2020. If the episode summary on IMDB is any indication of just what is in store for eager fans, it looks as though the continuation of season 5 will not disappoint.

While no indication has been given regarding what Maddie and Chimney’s futures may look like, IMDB’s episode description for 9-1-1 season 5, episode 11 says that the 118 will be attempting to “save a family whose pick-up truck has been rigged with a pipe bomb” (via IMDB). Written by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Menear, the show is also adding two new members to the 118, one of which may be Lucy Donato, a firefighter who will be played by Arielle Kebbel. The description also suggests that Eddie is having a challenging time making the move to his new job and that Buck “makes an impulsive relationship decision” (via IMDB). Buck hasn’t always had the best luck in relationships, but he did just get through his first Christmas in a serious relationship with Taylor (Megan West).

The procedural drama has seen several characters come and go throughout its run, like when Connie Britton’s Abbey left 9-1-1 after just one season, but it seems that characters like Eddie are sticking around, though perhaps just not with the 118. While 9-1-1 will move back into its 8/7c slot on Mondays, this pushes 9-1-1: Lone Star back to its usual 9/8c time on Mondays. It’s possible there could even be another crossover episode with its Texas-based spinoff series, but either way, fans won’t have to wait much longer to see just what the writers have in store for their favorite 9-1-1 characters.

9-1-1 Season 5, Episode 11 premieres on Monday, March 21, 2022, at 8/7c on Fox.
