For players in the Northern Hemisphere, winter has stretched on for many long months in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and fans are starting to wonder if spring will ever melt the snow from their island homes. The frosty winter season added a nice touch to seasonal events like Toy Day and New Year’s Eve, but with Festivale now behind players and excitement starting to build for warmer weather, many will be happy to know the big thaw isn’t too far off in Animal Crossing.

Snow settled on Animal Crossing islands back in December of 2020, and with it, players were able to enjoy the magic of winter. Trees were frosted white, and characters were dressed warmly in winter sweaters, coats and boots as they tromped through their islands, building Snowboys and decorating for the chilly season. Snow typically coats Animal Crossing for three months, meaning players are at the end of the winter season.

It appears players will see the snow melting in late February, with a complete thaw due sometime around February 24 or 25, according to the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Official Companion Guide, via DualShockers. Green grass and trees will be a perfect touch as players roll into March, helping them prepare for the upcoming crossover event between Animal Crossing and Super Mario Bros., as well as the usual spring holidays.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Winter Is Almost Over

New Horizons will also be celebrating Animal Crossing’s Shamrock Day holiday, a seasonal event taking place on March 17. Players will be able to purchase shamrock-themed décor starting March 10. Decorations include shamrock rugs, door plates, home decorations and outfits to help players get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirt. Players will also be able to start preparing their Super Mario looks on March 1, when the contents of the free update, releasing on February 25, becomes available.

Currently, it isn’t clear if Animal Crossing will be celebrating its first birthday on March 20 with a special event or if the infamous Bunny Day event and its onslaught of eggs will return in April. In the meantime, players can definitely look forward to the melting of snow and getting their flower patches and gardens spruced up for any upcoming springtime content in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
