Viewers may be confused as to when Chapelwaite episode 6 will air due to Epix’s hybrid release model; here it is explained.  Based on the Stephen King short story Jerusalem’s Lot the series tells the unsettling story of a mid-19th-century town plagued by horrific supernatural forces. In addition to leading man Adrien Brody, who stars as Captain Charles Boone, the show also features Emily Hampshire, Jennifer Ens, Sirena Gulamgaus, Ian Ho, and Eric Peterson.

As with any Stephen King adaptation, Chapelwaite was highly anticipated by audiences leading up to its premiere on Epix. With acclaimed actors Brody and Hampshire leading the cast, it seemed destined to deliver a taut and compelling story, and a number of critics have praised the show for its pacing and atmospheric narrative. Others have been somewhat harsher with the series, however, criticizing it for being unimaginative and occasionally boring. Chapelwaite currently holds a 60 percent fresh critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but its audience rating is far higher at 81 percent.

Clearly, many King readers are thoroughly enjoying the various dark adventures on display but can be forgiven for not always understanding the release schedule. The series is available up through episode 5 online, but episode 6 won’t release until Sunday, October 3, making it appear as though there’s a two-week gap between episodes. However, that release date is deceptive as it’s the date for the linear release, meaning that’s when it releases on traditional broadcast TV. Right now, Epix employs a hybrid VOD/linear release model. Each episode of Epix’s Chapelwaite releases online first through the EPIX Now app and VOD platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, then the episode airs on traditional television two weeks later. That means Chapelwaite episode 6 will be online and on VOD this Sunday, September 19, then air two weeks later on the Epix network on Sunday, October 3. 

To get a better idea, this is what the release schedule for Chapelwaite will look like over the next few weeks:

  • Sunday, September 19 – Episode 6 releases on VOD | Episode 4 premieres on Epix network
  • Sunday, September 26 – Episode 7 releases on VOD | Episode 5 premieres on Epix network
  • Sunday, October 3 – Episode 8 releases on VOD | Episode 6 premieres on Epix network

As Chapelwaite is 10 episodes long, that means the Chapelwaite finale will release on Sunday, October 17 on VOD and online and on the Epix network on Sunday, October 31 – perfectly timed with Halloween.

In the meantime, King enthusiasts can tide themselves over with some of the acclaimed author’s other recent adaptations, like HBO’s The Outsider, Paramount+’s The Stand, and Apple TV+’s Lisey’s Story. They can also look forward to other upcoming Stephen King adaptations like Joyland on Freeform, Revelations on The CW, and The Talisman on Netflix. And for those viewers solely interested in Chapelwaite, they don’t have too long to wait before the show returns this Sunday with the next installment.
