Final Fantasy XIV servers have been severely congested for months and, as a result, FFXIV character creation restrictions have been implemented in hopes of reducing the long queue times. Unfortunately, this limitation affects both new players and current adventurers wishing to make a new character. The game has experienced massive growth in the past year and positive reactions from Endwalker have only invited more players to try FFXIV. There are so many new adventurers, in fact, that publisher Square Enix decided to temporarily suspend the sale of the Starter and Complete Editions of the game. For the restriction on character creation to end, player congestion on each server needs to subside.

When adventurers join a populated World, they are, most likely, choosing to create a character for one of two reasons: to join a friend or to play on a busy server. Before Endwalker, players on different Data Centers could not complete activities with each other. Originally, adventurers also had limited options for interactions with others from different Worlds, such as duties. However, Patch 4.57 introduced the World Visit System for players to temporarily log in to a different server and play with friends. These factors and the rising popularity of the game have led to Worlds being overcrowded and for a FFXIV character creation restriction to take place.

The FFXIV character creation restriction is a result of the lack of server space for the number of adventurers. Players of Endwalker are receiving the message error 2002 because too many characters are trying to log in to a specific World or Data Center at once. The global shortage of semi-conductors has proven to be the root cause as to why new servers have yet to be created. The development team recognized the problem adventurers would face around the release of Endwalker and did what they could to optimize the servers. The login cap for characters has since been raised, along with the implementation of a shorter AFK timer of 30 minutes. Until the influx of adventurers dissipates, the character creation restriction in FFXIV will most likely remain, but there are some solutions to the problem.

Ways To Avoid The FFXIV Character Creation Restrictions

One reason players might want to make a new character in Final Fantasy 14 is to choose from the plethora of customization options in the game. Instead, adventurers can use the Fantasia item in-game to change their avatar’s race, hair, gender, date of birth, and guardian. Another way players can avoid the restrictions is by either creating or transferring their existing character to a less populated server. The Lodestone has a page that shows which Worlds on each Data Center have room for more adventurers. Bonuses can also be acquired on a sparsely populated server, such as double experience until level 80 or 15 days of free play time.

The lack of new servers has proven to be the biggest problem in FFXIV right now. Unfortunately, the time needed for the development team to obtain the semi-conductors required is unpredictable. Fans may not know when exactly FFXIV character creation restrictions may be lifted, but there are ways to work around the problem and to continue enjoying Final Fantasy XIV.
