Fresh off the success of The Outer Worlds, Obsidian Entertainment has another hit on their hands with Grounded, which started Early Access at the end of July. Now, fans of the game are eagerly awaiting new story content. Obsidian has promised regular updates every month, but that doesn’t necessarily mean those updates are story-related. So, when is the next story content coming to Grounded?

Releasing on Xbox One, Steam, and Game Pass, Grounded is a survival game that plays out like Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, as shrunken players fight their way through their own backyards. In first- or third-person, players must contend with ants, spiders, and all sorts of other creatures ready to tear them apart. It’s an interesting concept brought to life with gorgeous, colorful visuals.

The game officially released in Early Access at the end of July, and was met with enthusiasm, as Grounded reached over 1 million players in just two days. Since then, Obsidian has promised to add updates monthly. The newest update, Patch 0.1.1, was added on August 6th. While the patch didn’t add any new story content, it fixed several major bug issues and made some UI changes.

When Story Updates May Come To Grounded

Because of Grounded‘s popularity, fans are clamoring for new story content. The story, which is set in the 1990’s and centers around a group of young teens, has players unraveling the mystery of why they’ve been shrunken to the size of an ant. Because of the mysterious nature of the narrative, people are eager to see where Grounded’s plot will go in the future.

Unfortunately, in Grounded’s Early Access form, there’s also not a whole lot of story available for players to invest in. Most players make it to the end of Grounded’s available story content in an hour or so, getting a “End of Story Content” message before much happens. And, until new content is added, fans of the game are stuck with simple collection missions and the game’s multiplayer function. While Grounded’s multiplayer can be a fun experience, many people go to Obsidian games more for story than for gameplay, and right now there isn’t much to be had in that department.

For now, players will have to see if Obsidian’s monthly updates add any new story content. There’s another patch scheduled for August 27th, although there’s no word yet on what’s included with it. Hopefully, fans of Grounded won’t have to wait for the game to officially launch before getting new story content, since the Obsidian seems to be eyeing a 2021 release date for the title. If that happens, players may not see new story content for Grounded until next year.
