Hades has remained a popular title in the dungeon-crawling roguelike genre since its full release in September of 2020. With a story inspired by elements of Greek Mythology, NPCs that the player can romance, and fulfilling ways to level Zagreus and his weapons, Hades has offered gamers a great way to blow off steam while still enjoying a good narrative. However, many players are finding that they have accomplished everything the game has to offer, and the only thing left to do is restart and begin again from scratch. This may leave some players wondering if there is any DLC planned for Hades’ future.

DLC is a popular way to expand a video game’s base story that was (or wasn’t, in many cases) originally released as complete. Additional content has become a staple of AAA games, as well as smaller indie titles, giving players more gameplay to explore once they have finished the main storyline. DLC can consist of content as simple as additional weapons and outfits to complex expansions including entire maps and new NPCs that open the door for additional narrative. While some games like Stardew Valley integrate these DLC expansions via free updates, most DLC packs require players to pay anywhere from a few dollars to the price of another game if they want to continue the story.

Because of its popularity, Hades would be a good candidate for expanding story and game goals through the introduction of DLC. There are many Greek gods and myths that weren’t included in the final cut of the game, giving developers a number of options for expanding the base experience. Adding new weapons, aspects, or gods would give fans who have completed Hades new content to enjoy as they work through dungeons, as well as potentially offer more options to those who are just picking the game up for the first time.

Hades Could Use DLC To Add More Story Or Additional Gods

It is unlikely, however, that Hades will see DLC introduced any time in the future. There has been no indication from the game’s developers that DLC is in the works, or even potentially on the table, for the popular dungeon crawler. Supergiant Games, who has also released titles like Pyre and Bastion, doesn’t have a history of expanding games with DLC. Instead, once a game is finished, they let it stand alone and move on to new projects, rather than expanding titles they may feel are already complete.

While Hades may stay in its current, unexpanded state, developers may potentially decide to release a sequel game following other characters players interact with during the Hades storyline, or take mechanics that players found enjoyable and employ them to a new title in the future. Despite the fact that the story may be complete for Hades, the game has excellent replayability, and remains a fun and exciting dungeon crawler title for gamers who enjoy the genre.
