Ubisoft’s open-world FPS series Far Cry has taken players around the globe across the course of its games, but there are still plenty of places to explore in the highly likely Far Cry 7. Since the first title dropped back in 2004, Far Cry has often been set in fictional war-torn countries, with the player often taking on the role of someone thrust into the thick of combat with little or no military training. However, in spite of all of the action and explosions in the series, one of the games’ main attractions is their expansive and realistic open worlds, with Far Cry featuring beautiful wildlife mechanics to interact with.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Although the original two Far Cry games were well received, the franchise’s big break came with the release of Far Cry 3 in 2012, set in the fictional Rook Islands, a tropical archipelago in the Pacific Ocean. Other locations in the series include a fictional unnamed African country in Far Cry 2, The Nepalese and Tibetan inspired Kyrat in Far Cry 4, and even a rural American setting in the fictional Hope County based in the real-world state of Montana for Far Cry 5. The most recent entry was set in a fictional South American country heavily inspired by Cuba, called Yara. Far Cry 6‘s Yara was a compelling locale filled with memorable characters, but as with previous installments, the follow-up shouldn’t stay in the same place.

That leaves a number of settings and environments that could be explored in Far Cry 7, and the series showed with Far Cry Primal that it is also open to exploring different time periods. The Middle East is one area unexplored by Far Cry, with a fictional Middle-Eastern country allowing players to explore a more arid climate whilst also being distinct visually from previous entries like Africa. Another potential setting could be an Arctic region, giving players a problem to deal with should Ubisoft decide to incorporate environmental factors such as dealing with the cold. With Far Cry 7 rumored to focus on multiplayer, it would help for there to be a diverse array of levels for players to explore.

Far Cry 7 Should Be Set In The Middle East

A Middle-Eastern setting would give Far Cry 7 plenty of options when it comes to set pieces, as the region is full of a variety of different environments spanning urban and rural settings. There would also be the potential for mountainous regions, depending on which nations would inspire the setting. Plus, on top of the usual assortment of vehicles for players to take control of, it would also be a good opportunity for Ubisoft to give players a new experience in the form of horses or even camels, further expanding on the popularity of animal partners in Far Cry, such as the cute pooch Chorizo in Far Cry 6.

There are plenty of places Ubisoft could take Far Cry in the future, but a fictional locale set in the Middle East could be particularly compelling – especially with a trademark charismatic antagonist at the center. There is also the potential for Far Cry 7 to utilize some of the series’ older characters, given some of the recurrent figures such as CIA operative Willis Huntley and Far Cry 3‘s Vaas, who survived the events of the game as revealed in Far Cry 6. There’s currently no word on when Ubisoft may announce another Far Cry game, but here’s hoping that it features a great setting.
