It’s time to play “Where’s Wanda?” after the WandaVision season 1 finale. The episode may not have delivered the Earth-shattering twists some were predicting, but WandaVision‘s finale altered the two main characters forever. While Vision now has a new lease of life in a white body, Wanda Maximoff received a huge power-up during her fight with Agatha Harkness. After Agatha revealed Chaos Magic to be the source of Wanda’s superpowers, the Scarlet Witch embraced her mythical moniker and transformed into the formidable sorceress Agatha feared, getting a brand new costume in the process. Bidding farewell to Monica Rambeau, Wanda promises to learn more about her magic.

Unfortunately, not everyone is as chill about the Westview situation as Monica. As the residents and FBI close in cautiously, Wanda flies off. WandaVision episode 9’s post-credits scene then catches up with the Scarlet Witch in a remote mountain cabin. She’s making tea, but simultaneously using astral projection to flip through the Darkhold, presumably with a view to harnessing her powers. Wanda is living alone, with only her inner witch for company, but where is she when the show wraps up?

Since the purpose of Wanda’s exile is to escape retribution for the Westview incident, she has obviously moved to a remote location, and a mountainous region of Sokovia is one possibility. As she faces an identity crisis, it makes sense that Wanda Maximoff might return to her place her birth, hoping to feel some connection to the past. A more interesting option would be the Marvel comic locale of Latveria. Another fictional Eastern European country, Latveria could be near enough to Sokovia to provide Wanda with the comforts of home, but not so close as to arouse suspicion. Furthermore, Latveria’s mountainous region is home to the Sorceress (and Chaos Lord) Pandemonia in the comic books. Wanda could run into Pandemonia, or the MCU could adapt elements of the character for Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch. Latveria’s ruler should be fairly relaxed about letting Wanda into his land too – he’s none other than Dr. Victor von Doom, neatly setting up the MCU’s future Fantastic Four movie.

A final possibility for Scarlet Witch’s post-WandaVision hideaway is Wundagore Mountain. Situated in Transia (another state in the general vicinity of Sokovia), Wundagore Mountain is where Chthon, the God of Chaos, first sat down and wrote his most famous work – the Darkhold. Wundagore is also where Chthon is imprisoned according to the Marvel comics. In traditional lore, Scarlet Witch’s Chaos Magic was a gift from Chthon upon birth, so if MCU Wanda is committed to reading the Darkhold and finding out more about her fearsome abilities, it’s entirely feasible that her mountain retreat wasn’t chosen just for its remoteness. Wanda could be looking for ways to contact Chthon, or dig deeper into the secrets of the Darkhold by finding the tome’s author.

The truth of Wanda Maximoff’s current whereabouts in the MCU will surely be revealed in 2022’s Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. Elizabeth Olsen is confirmed to appear in the mystic Marvel sequel, and this means either Strange comes to her in the mystery mountains, or Wanda visiting the New York sanctum. Perhaps the Sorcerer Supreme suddenly realizes he probably should’ve been paying more attention to Westview and drops into Wanda’s hideout. Maybe Wanda leaves the safety of her cabin to seek out a mentor she can trust. Either way, their meeting should reveal whether Scarlet Witch is in Sokovia, Transia, Latveria, or simply the middle of nowhere when WandaVision concludes.
